Yahoo it's Draco!!! :) :D

Since it's dark and tired out, I think I'lljust hand off to the relief pitcher and hit the showers. G'Night, all.

Ok....so maybe its not a virus....maybe your system files are corrupted...two ways to deal with it....

#1: Open your start menu and type
SFC
in the Run box...this will run the System File Checker to verify that all your system files are ok and haven't been replaced with modified version (as some programs do)

If that comes back as clean...we'll do some open Windows surgery....open the longue window and throw the offending machine as far as possible.....(no..sorry..I'll be serious now.)

#2: Get your Windows 98 disk out and slip it into the CD-Rom drive (if it 'auto-runs') close it....then in your Start Menu/Run box and type

*:\Win98\setup.exe /nx /d { * is your cd drive letter...usually D)

This will install windows 98 over top of itself....it will retain all your data and system settings, but will freshen up all the windows core files.

If both of these fail......and you get really desperate....I can lend you my Remington 8 Shot Pump Action Shot Gun...its really good for "repairing" puters....

Ok..last resort.....021-295-6678 (my cell phone number)

Hi - if you go into google.com and type in part of what the error reads...it will bring up pages of information. That is how i've solved many of my computer issues.

Good luck

Draco , what about trojan remover link , is that any good ...

http://www.simplysup.com/tremover/

That is excellent for removing trojans ...

Ok..I havent seen it..I only trust PC-Cillin's HouseCall Service. They are a reputable company and known the world over.

(Disclaimer...I resell their products. BUT, even before I started selling PC-Cillin, I was a user for at least 3 years. Their products are tried and true.)

I'll check it out tho...thanks SarahUK4...also see the Yahoo thread for more info.

Draco , Well I use Housecall every day , Trojan remover and my own Nortons is running in back ground all the time ....I even keep firewall up all time on net ....and when defragging and Scan disking as I am on cable ....Do you use Reg Cleaner or Cleandisk or adware programmes , I run these but would like your opinion on them please......

I use Zone Alarm Firewall .....which one do you run please ?

MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:8548b.

It's all greek to me. This is what I got when I tried to open Outlook Express.

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module OLEAUT32.DLL at 017f:653aac21.

This is the little puppy that comes up when I try to open MY DOCUMENTS folder on my desktop.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllp!!!!!

Your oleaut32.dll error is likely caused by an incorrect version. Depending on which version of Windows you're running, you can extract a copy from your installation cd using System File Checker.

Kernel32.dll errors are harder to track down, but when related to OE, then it's usually to do with one of the rules you have set up.

You might first try running the IE Repair Tool in Add/Remove Programs > Internet Explorer > Remove > Repair.

We really should see a post of your startups for further advice. Errors like that can be caused spyware infections as well as file incompatibiities and viruses or trojans.

These are instructions for replacing a file using SFC in Win98. WinME requires the extraction to be made by running msconfig and using the "Extract One File" option there.

Using SFC to extract files

1. Go to Start>Run and enter SFC and click OK
2. Check "Extract one File"
3. Enter the file name and click on "Start"
4. In the "Restore from" field enter:: D:\WIN98 [if 'D' is not the letter of your CD-Rom drive, modify appropriately]
5. Click OK

{if you do not have a Windows system CD, try subsitituting c:\windows\options\cabs in the"restore from field"}

Hi again...we have to stop meeting like this...folks will talk.

Ok, I checked out Trojan Remover and give it a thumbs up. It seems to do its stuff quite well.

Firewall: PC-Cillin 2002 has a set & forget firewall built in...(I'm on dial-up..pout) Cable is still too expensive to have here in NZ.

Regcleaner: I use System Mechanic from www.iolo.com It has a reg cleaner built into it as well as a raft of other handy tools...defenitately a good system tool to have, its nice to have all the tools in one toolbox (as you'll see if you download it...the GUI is in the shape of a mechanics toolbox...quite funky.)

Zonealarm: I have used it before and usually specify it for clients, but I usually run BlackIce Defender, its a bit more complex but has better options and You can usually trace the attacks as they happen.

Nortons: OK, I'm biased towards PC-Cillin (being a reseller) but I have used Nortons and I would recommend it. Caught between the two here, I have to say...PC-Cillin overall is the better, a better update proceedure (PC-Cillin updates automatically when connected to the net, were Nortons you had to manually do it. (MY OPINION ONLY)

Defragging: VoptXP or Millenium from www.goldenbow.com. Its THE only tool I would ever consider for defragging...it leaves all others in its wake. My whole system of 3 HDD's totalling 28 gig is done in less than 5 minutes and it also features a lot of other tools for the rmoval of Temp files, Temporary Internet files URL cache and such like. It runs rings around all others, including Diskeeper and Nortons Speedisk.

OK, these are my opinions only, others may have different tools and things that they use and thats a good thing. These are the ones I like and use constanly.

Has anyone heard from Kiwiwolf? Has he got his PC sorted and back running?

Debs, Ms TH, please let me know how he's getting on..?

Email , PM, ICQ or phone.....

Draco,

Thanks for all the info about pc's ...

Is System Mechanic free of charge ?

On Trojan remover did you do full scan , the flash light one ?...or just quick scan , now my full scan takes over an hour .....but very very thorough .....well worth it ...

Well I have Nortons 2002 virus scanner , find it pretty reliable ,but as I said before I use Housecall every day , even before the bad booters in Yahoo!.....

I am on Cable broadband ...but I am not that pleased with it , too tell you the truth .....

Many thanks to all who had suggestions for the repair of my electronic sea anchor. It's 5.31 am here and I've been trying since I finished work at 3.30 to post here. If this doesn't go through my machine will be sleeping with the fishes first thing tomorrow/ today.:(

Play nice everyone and say a prayer for the health of my poor wee PC.

It's a sign you should move here.

It's a sign I should either work decent hours or put an axe through this fucking oversized paper weight. By the way... I love your AV.:nana:

I move house starting tomorrow. It should only take me a week to do. Wish me luck.

I think that will remove a considerable amount of your stress, sugah.

*kiss* bueno suerte
