This thread is entirely dedicated to Renza Ma and baby J. Renza Ma has been having intense back pain of late She can't sit in a chair for more than 10 minutes without crying. (unless it's a chair with a reclining back or unless her back is loosend from walking around a lo. SO mostly she just lays down or paces. I mentioned her back problems as an aside in another thread but now I really am interested in any natural remidies any of you might have. I've made with the massages and hot water bottles but it's not working anymore. It hurts me to see her in such pain so any advice at all would be great. The doctor says it's normal to have back pain but he's not the one watching her cry :(

We utilized the services of midwives for both our children. Both were born at a birth center - it was a terrific experience.

But that lower back pain was so awful - I remember that. (And I used to get horrible calf cramps, too).

Things that worked for me?

When lying down bend knees and put pillows underneath. This takes some of the pressure off the lower back. Sleep on left side - hugging a pillow helps (or put one under baby tummy).

Also - many cramps are caused by lack of vitamins/minerals (especially if baby is taking so much right now). Up dosages of calcium, potassium, and vitamins C and D. Calcium is a biggie - and it is often overlooked as a cramp inducer.

And iron. How are iron levels? I couldn't take enough supplements to cover what my children were sucking from me. If I couldn't get my levels higher I was going to have to go to the hospital to deliver. SO - blackstrap molasses was the ticket. Ick. I used to take it by teaspoon several times a day (with an orange juice chaser because the vitamin C helped your body absorb the iron better).

I hope some of this may help?

Oh - and fire your non-caring doctor.

(What a dick head.)

My back ached continuously when I was carrying my daughter.

The only thing I found that helped was this:

Have Renza lie on the floor on her back with her butt right up against the couch or a cushy chair (pillow under her head), and put her legs up on the couch/chair. She'll basically be in a sitting position.

I stayed that way for hours with a book.

Hope it helps.

i had them too. leaned against a door and did pelvic tilts all through my 8th and 9th months. what i was told is that the siactic(sp) nerve gets pinched... so if you can ease the nerve out of its pinch, youll feel ever so much better.. it really did ease the ache.

vits are good idea too, but that should be cleared with dr. cuz whats good for one, may be poison to another.

hope it helps.. sending positive get better back thoughts:rose:

Dest, I don't know if you and Renza have heard of TENs machines, but they can be a Godsend.

I suffered from terrible back pain during both my pregnancies, particularly towards the end. The awkward little babbies thought it would be a good idea to rest directly on a nerve. Nothing helped alleviate this incredible pain, until my midwife suggested I use a TENs machine.

They are perfectly safe little devices and are used here in the UK now as almost routine. You place the little pads on the back (or abdomen during labour), then hit the switch. I tiny electrical pulse is sent between the two pads, numbing the pain. It isn't harmful to the baby at all, because it is largely a topical treatment - it doesn't travel far into the body at all. You can also increase the amount of electrical charge.

I found it really helped and it might be well worth you looking into. I can assure you, they are perfectly safe.

I was on a low salt, low fat (low taste...but that's another story) during the early stages of my pregnancy due to other health issues. When those had been cleared, I stayed on the diet because I felt so much healthier. Late in my pregnancy I started having problems with leg and back cramps, and my doctor pointed out that not enough salt can bring on cramps due to throwing off electrolyte levels. He had me add a little bit of salt to my diet and potassium and the cramps abated, taking with them most of the back pain I had been having.

Best wishes to you both. *hugs* (Oops, I mean all three of you!)

Another thought -

How are things today? cloudy and vella's suggestions about easing pelvis pressure are wonderful!

Perhaps your doctor can refer you to prenatal massage place? Something should be able to be done for her pain.

(It makes me so sad to think of Renza crying.)

You could contact an expert about vitamins and specific types of foods to help with the situation. Water soluble vitamins "go right through you" which is one of the reasons you can become so easily deficient.

(Not iron - blame that one on the baby - LOL)

Most MD's and OB/GYN's only have a class or two on nutrition; they have no more information than the rest of us, really. Seek out a certified nutritionist for the best help; your OB should be able to recommend one.

(If you haven't fired him.)

:D

thank you all so much cloudy you were absolutely right about the laying on the floor thing and Vella I'm going to try the pelvic tilts a little later. Lucky told the wife about PN massages which I"m going to get tomorrow yay :D and lou I've used something like that before but there was a violet wand involved and the whole scenario had nothing to do with my back. I might try that too though. SSSarahh my Doctor is a jackass but the "best" one that my insurance covers every two months or so the insurance that I go through makes up a new idiotic sanction.
