I am try to help a nieghbor with her computer. When she boots it up and it stops there is a compaq organizer logo in the center of the screen and it will not go away she can't do anything with it there.

She has a compaq a newer on with windows xp how do i get it off the the screen.

I can be online with it but with the logo there you can not do anything because it is in the way. She just wants it gone.

Thanks.

Have you tried ctrl alt delete ? When it task manager comes up, see which program you need to turn off?

First, it sounds like Compaq Organizer is freezing up -- it should show up in the Ctrl-Alt-Del task menu as [Not Responding] and can be removed by "End Task"

Second, you need to stop Compaq Organizer from trying to load, or figure out why it's freezing up if she wants it to load.

To stop it from loading, check the Start\programs\startup folder and/or startup tab in MS Config, or go to Control Panel\Add-Remove Programs to remove the progrm links or the whole program.

To correct the problem if she wants the orgnizer to load, is a more difficult problem -- it may require using the restore disk to completely restore the factory set-up.

If the problem is fairly recent, it might be possible to restore a previous condition to before the problem started with XP's automatic restore points.

Uh oh.

You will most definitely need a boot (restore) disk as mentioned previously. Go to a public computer and download one if you don't have one. In the meantime, try to enter the setup screen by holding down ?F8? to see if you can fix the problem in setup. Ctrl+Alt+Del will not work unless you are in the OS. By the sounds of your description, you can't get past the boot screen. Eventually, I suspect you will have to format your drive, but I'm not a computer expert: but then neither are you and I suspect you are looking for cheap, non-third party solution. Oh yeah, and I agree with the other fella'--don't buy Compaq again. Good luck!

Her nephew came over and removed compaq organiser which she did not need so it was ok i was thinking of doing that but wanted to see what help i could get here so thanks everybody since he removed it it is gone and she can use her computer again.

And i don't want a compaq or dell i will just build my own.
