Help a Dumb Blonde

OK. I am NOT a blonde.

I am a red head...take my word for it. Folks just think I am a blonde or a strawberry blonde because I kinda worship the sun and it kinda lightens my hair.

Rest assured I am a true redhead....no doubt....

But that's not what this thread is about.

I have a "blonde" question.

Here goes.....

So I got this refrigerator with an automatic ice maker.....

all of a sudden (a couple of months ago) the freezer part started "flooding" with water (AKA ice). It covers the whole freezer compartment in a couple of days.

So I thought that maybe I got a leak in the hose for the ice maker.

So, I pull the frige out from the wall and turn the little thingy off for the ice maker.

But still....the problem exists.......


Where the fuck is the water coming from? I don't understand it.

I would call my landlord and ask for assistance but he is a lecherous motherfucker and always gives me "that look" especially since he found out that I am a lesbian and has seen my girlfriend with me on several occasions and I think he may either want to watch or is waiting for an invatation to join in the activities.

I realize that I live in florida but pah-leeze give me a fucking break....there aint that much moisture in the atmosphere to account for this shit, and I remind you this didn't happen the first two years that I lived here.

there is probably too much estrogen in the air of the kitchen...

look, applying testicular reasoning: an ordinary fridge has no source of water: in it, any water comes from melting ice, and or condensation.

so the water, if it's a lot, recurring, must be from the supply to the ice maker. you shut a valve (at the machine?) try to find an earlier valve on the line (at the wall?) and shut it. it seems possible that a) you didn't shut the valve completely, or b) it was defective and wouldn't shut completely. or find the water line in your basement before it goes up to the fridge, and see if that can be shut. even if the water to something else was affected, you could test the idea.
then have a plumber come cap the line or fix the valve(s).

if you have the water supply under control, consider physically removing/unscrewing/ interrupting the hose leading to the fridge, and see if the mystery water still flows.

it stands to reason that if your fridge's water supply is cut, the only source of water is the ice inside or condensation; normally that wouldn't melt, except on auto defrost, or something.

Actually, there is enough moisture in the air to account for what you describe -- even in somplace as dry Nevada, let alone in humid, muggy, Florida.

As Samandiriel's link explains, a plugged drain will cause the condesation to collect in the freezer compartment instead of the drip-pan -- the drain just wasn't clogged the first two years you lived there.

I suspect that in addition to a clogged drain, your fridge needs to be serviced and the refrigerant recharged -- if you don't get that done, I doubt that it will continue to keep cooling for more than about six months.
