I have a story almost ready for the On the Job event but I'm torn on how to categorize it.

In the story the MMC figures out that the FMC, who is a troublesome co-worker, has a fetish for being demeaned. The FMC doesn't even fully understand it herself but by the story's end is getting aroused while the MMC demeans and fucks her. It kinda non-con since the MMC uses what he's learned about the FMC to aggressively steer her into a sexual encounter that, if it wasn't for her kink, she'd never be into. On the other hand, I perceive the demeaning kink as falling in the BDSM realm. There are no other BDSM elements apart from that.

Suggestions/perspectives welcomed.

NC/R seems like the right place. It starts out NC, and the FMC may have 'progressed' to just reluctant or regretful about her pleasure by the end. If the story closes with her acknowledging, accepting, and/or embracing her kink, it might be okay in BDSM. The audience there, or at least the lifestyle segment of it, generally seem to prefer clear-cut consensual scenarios, so if it isn't a tale about the woman's self-discovery then they might get... irate. Especially if it's told from the MMC perspective, as I think they would consider him a bully at best, maybe a rapist, and resent the implied association with them.

Fetish or EC are also possible options.

You've hit on something that I've encountered before. The BDSM crowd seems to have a fairly strict reaction if the scene doesn't follow much the same guidelines as would an IRL encounter. I've even been called out for writing a BDSM scene that didn't include a discussion of safe words and after care.

Sounds like Fetish. Especially since you use the words fetish and kink to describe the character.

Taking advantage of someone's kinks for sex isn't necessarily noncon, unless they are resisting or are blackmailed into it.

Yeah, it can seem snobbish at times, I suppose. But it's not that much different from the people who have expertise in some field of study and feel compelled to point out factual errors or omissions by the author. I see it sometimes when it comes to things like police procedure, military matters, and cars (especially fancy cars). In the case of sexuality, it's perhaps even more understandable, since people who are considered to have 'deviant' tastes are often maligned and feel misunderstood or misrepresented, so they feel compelled to 'set things straight' sometimes.

Add some bum stuff and put it in Anal.
Or swap coworker for brother and the problem solves itself!

But more seriously; this is a story featuring a humiliation kink, so it belongs in Fetish. There is no non-con in the way you’ve described it, no more than a romantic story could be said to be NC because the guy stumbled upon the knowledge that FMC likes pink roses and uses it to impress her on their date and thus “steer her” towards having sex with him.

This is helpful. I had forgotten about the Fetish category since I’ve never written in it.

Thanks to everyone who weighed in.

Fetish, 100%. The Lobster is right; it's about a humiliation (or even more narrowly a dirty-talk) kink. It doesn't belong in BDSM unless it's going to include broader power dynamic stuff.

You've answered your own question. Either Fetish or Non-con, depending how you handle the primary kink. More Fetish, by the sounds of it, because she likes the treatment she's getting, and sounds like she consents from the start.

Sounds like a tricky one to categorize! It definitely has a mix of dub-con and BDSM elements, but since the dynamic hinges on the FMC’s hidden kink, it might lean more into psychological domination rather than traditional BDSM. Maybe “dub-con with BDSM undertones” could work? Either way, sounds like a complex and intense read.
