Hello From My Englishness

You've booked Norway when you live in Scotland - sinful  You have the lovely Plockton and Rest and be Thankful .... nothing like champagne and sunrise at Rest and Be Thankful and ooooo mmmm memories ...... yup I think Scotland is heaven on earth - weather can be a bit dodgy but nothing foulies and fleece can't cure

I'm going so loopy here I'm learning Tarot reading and definitely well on my way to winning the lottery through manifestation. Even the dog is chewing his elbow and the patio is looking more and more like it needs replacing very, very soon.

So what will you be burying under the soon-to-be-replaced patio? Answer in a pm lest you incriminate yourself

<snip>
24 Hours in A&E - Lovely program, but the amount of people that fall out of trees or fall off buildings is remarkable. If it has taught me one thing is that climbing anything taller than 1 storey is probably a bad idea.
<snip>

"Fall from height, fall from height"... Amazing how often they get those cases in the last few series. Previously, when it was at St Thomases it was always stabbings...

Now you are correct, I cannot deny that, but the bit of Norway I am going to be in has glacial tours where the possibility of seeing a Polar bear is pretty good. There is also the possibility that I may get bitten by one however what is life without a bit of adventure. Or risk. Or probable madness.

How far into the Tarot reading learning are you?

Not today for me, bid farewell to the wife and the UK for six months.

Sorry to hear this, I cannot imagine how hard that is for you and you have all my sympathy and good wishes to you.

In which case I feel I now have the PG version of the show. The thing is a lot of the time I watch it and it reminds me of how much the bonds that we have can be the greatest treatment of all. Through thick and thin it can make a difference to wake up and see someone that is in your corner looking at you, or just the touch of kindness and caring that comes from dependability.

I hope I would be lucky enough to have that should that ever happen to me really. Sometimes I am not entirely convinced that would be the case.

However Netflix had the audacity to only have 2 series on the service so hopefully 4oD have some more to make me feel a bit warm and fuzzy. My consumption of not having to think shows has skyrocketed since the lockdown as during my working day I need some noise to be around me as complete silence has never been my best working position. So I flit between TV I do not need to really watch or podcasts I do not really need to pay attention to. So if there are any good listening recommendations I am all (2) ears :)

I'd love to see a well fed polar bear, if I saw a malnourished one I'd be way beyond sad. And I guess if it was starving it would be more inclined to want to want me for his lunch

Erm, the Tarot cards ........ probably closer to winning the lottery by manifesting . I can't seem to focus on anything at the moment for longer than 5 mins.

Glacial tours do sound fabulous, I'd love to see the Northern Lights too, they're on my bucket list. Are you going soon, when do they hit long dark days?

I plan to pack a large variety of percy pigs and hope that pretend farmyard animals is enough to sate its appetite. Otherwise I do not trust my ability to run on the ice, but I mean they look so cuddly that I bet they really just want a hug.

If your tarot cards do lead to lottery clairvoyance please let me know, I could do with a little boost. I do know what you mean by lack of concentration ability, I have definitely had issues where my procrastination has hugely increased and my productivity has nosedived.

I leave on the 10th September, from what I understand it will be more dark than light but not in the realms of full on 24 hour vampire holiday territory.

So what else has your 5 minute of distractions provided you with during the lockdown?

And how is everyone doing this fine near end of week?

I totally agree with them looking cuddly, God must have stubbed his toe the day he picked their teeth, everything else was were designed to hug. What kind of Scottish man are you if you can't run on ice  Your weather, ice rinks and skiing should have prepared you well :D

I have mastered procrastination, well I will tomorrow ........ and my creativity has never been this low, I do envy people who live alone, when this 'isolation' actually means solitude. The only thing I can do on my own atm is over think and that's never good.

Maybe you'll get to see the Northern Lights, have you seen them before? They are sometimes visible in Scotland aren't they?

If I move to Plockton you'll know my lottery manifestation has been perfected :)

All the weather likes to do is get me wet and occasionally blown away should the fancy take it. Or tries to give me the look of a person suffering a large amount of dandruff when the snow hits. Which probably makes a rubbish Scotsman really ;)

There are benefits of living alone but truthfully I kinda miss the hugs. Even when I am at the stage where I can see people in the flesh, go on socially distanced walks or share a drink or some food over a table I still miss that little moment of a tight hug. Basically I am a big softie, and at least if there was someone about they could be either the huggle buddy or cuddle surrogate depending on the designation they would like.

I have never seen the northern lights, that is on the big long travel bucket list along with half a dozen other things this pandemic appears to want to get in the way of. I have pyramids, great walls, lonely desserts and populated cities to get stuck into still.

Hopefully your overthinking has not been too bad yesterday, or today. I am just happy it is finally Friday and this week can be thrown over the shoulder and left well well alone. Viva le weekend, and all the fun that may bring. Or the sleep. Glorious sleep...

You know I have never been to Plockton? Possible heresy. Is it quite a nice place?

I was a surrogate cuddler once over. I went to college as a mature student and did a course with a very diverse range of students, mostly between 20 and 30 and a long way from home and parents, they missed their mum hugs so I stepped in for a year. Nothing like a good cuddle even if it is only a mum cuddle :)

I've got a lot on my bucket list too. Hopefully I'll live long enough to get through it and find a nutcase to do it with :D

Oh Plockton is beautiful, got a micro climate too, has palm trees :) and it's very arty. A little piece of heaven on earth :)

If I could be a professional surrogate hugger I think I would love it. Sounds like you are pretty good at the old arm wrapping yourself, it can really make all the difference to someone at points. I think we all sometimes take that human moment of contact for granted, and when it is taken away from us we notice it all the more.

I suspect you will, to be honest I am always up for a mad adventure and I have always found that the crazier it sounds the more fun it can be.

Has any of my other UK compatriots been enjoying this ridiculously hot weather, or have we all been very British and thought this heat is just far far too hot for us?

Much to hot for this old fart. Have been struggling to keep my son cool and hydrated. Have had fans pointed at him but have to avoid his face as he is an open mouth breather and if any wind hits his throat it can trigger a vomit.
As he is fed by a pump straight into his stomach, we are limited to how much liquid and how fast we can give it to him. He is having it pumped for almost 24 hours a day, which the medics don’t like. He should have regular breaks. The only alternative is a hospital admission for IV fluids, but that isn’t even under consideration with Covid still hanging around.

That sounds horrendous Todger, hope your son can get some relief from it soon.

Hug for you man.

Thanks,

It is worse this year as we have had to reduce the feed rate and give it over a longer time. We used to run at almost twice the rate last year then his body decided it couldn’t process it quick enough so after a hospital stay last October it was decided to slow things down.

Sending big hugs, Todge. It’s got to be so frustrating to try and balance all the different facets of keeping your son comfortable. I hope that the heat breaks soon, so there will be one less challenge. I will keep you all in my thoughts.

Thank you beautiful, a bit cooler today and we are forecast thunderstorms from tonight until a Thursday. Hope that takes the heat away.

So sorry to hear that, sounds like a really tough combination of things none of which are giving you a break at the moment. I hope that it starts to get easier for you soon, and that your son can get a break soon too.

I wish I could do something to help. Thinking of you doesnt seem enough

Thanks Pol and NRP, we have it covered and have support. He has still attended his day centre throughout ( had an agreement with Health that he was no more at risk attending than staying home. Special provisions were made to minimise risk ) and we still get 4 nights respite every 28 days and only missed one at the end of March.

The only real difference is us not being able to take our short Sightseeing hotel breaks When he is away.

I am hoping the recent influx of the cold weather today is helping you mate.

I have to admit I am a pure sucker for a good old thunder storm, I was hoping that tonights would be proper harbinger of evil type big bangs and bigger sparks but it has all settled down into just a damp drizzle and drechtness. It is so very scottish, not quite enough to be impressive but definitely miserable enough that you would not want to be in it.

How is everyone doing at the start of this week, settling into it or already wondering why it feels so long?

NRP ~ You would have enjoyed our weather late Monday afternoon. There was a tornado warning. One actually touched down about four miles from us in a city neighborhood on the lakefront. The wind and rain definitely felt like a harbinger of evil. We hunkered down in our guest bathroom, as it’s in the center of the apartment and has no windows. The power went out a couple of times, but came back on within a few minutes. After about 20 minutes, we got the all clear. Storms continued for a while, but much less intense. Although I do love a thunderstorm, I am happy to skip the tornadoes.

Glad everything's alright, I remember when I was in Charleston about four years ago, they had a massive storm there, I was watching TV when suddenly tornado warnings started to flash up on screen.

Haven't never experienced anything like it before. I carried watching TV.
