Hello From My Englishness

Greetings all. Just thought I’d pop by to mention it’s my birthday.... it’s a big one. Can’t quite bring myself to say the number ( I’m still trying it on for size). I’m off to Whitstable for fish and chips... hoping to find I’m not one of 50,000 people and there is at least one ladies toilet open because.... you know, old age and all that! Hope you’re all well XX

Enjoy the day, you'll probably have to wait at least a year for another one like it.

Happy belated birthday!

I hope it wasn't as windy in Whitstable as it was here yesterday - although if it was it may have kept the masses away...

Hello. I fear it probably was...still fish and chips were consumed on the beach because let’s face it we’re British and we’re used to “weather”. Whitstable was charming I must say.... I wonder how many second homes and holiday lets the place has? Off to central London to get my new watch adjusted which I’m claiming is essential travel and not leisure. First time in a face mask .... it’s vile.

Public transport...it's a must and to be honest it's going to be the way of the world sadly ...Happy Birthday

I saw on the news that the police imposed a 48 hour dispersal order in Whitstable over the weekend so perhaps that made it more charming than it might have been?

I enjoy how in Britain a beach trip is an exercise in force of will rather than leisure... Whitley Bay is a particularly arduous :D

If your mask is bothersome I’d recommend trying some of the YouTube tutorials, mine is actually quite comfy :)

A friend kindly made me a bunch of nice fabric ones, but between my big ears, my glasses steaming up and plain just falling off my face (although I think that's the toddlers fault), they're still a royal pain in the arse. Thankfully I've st least got an excuse to stay largely isolated going forward, although my online shopping habit is getting out of control...

Sorry I missed the big day, SL. Hope you had a good one and that the new numbers aren't too scary. I keep trying to tell myself it's like fine cheese or wine, worth more for being older....

Hey Reaper! It’s not so much that it was uncomfortable but that your breath comes back at you... if that makes sense? I wonder if the paper ones are the same? I did notice a fair few travellers with their noses out over the top which hilariously defeats the objective ( or not hilariously since it’s me that cops it not them).

Anyway I had a picnic yesterday in St James park with friends I haven’t seen since February. Finger sandwiches, quiche, lemon drizzle cake, brownies and scones and clotted cream. There may have been the odd glass of Prosecco too ( even though I’m not a big fan). I loved seeing them... loved it. Afterwards I had a mooch in the big Waterstones bookshop at Piccadilly. Bliss

That sounds like an absolutely lovely way to spend the day, SL.

As someone who wears glasses and wore surgical masks almost every day at work for many years, I have found that it helps to wear the mask slightly lower on your nose. Pinch the nose wire just above where your nostrils bump out from the sides of your nose. I also find it helpful to set my glasses just a titch lower on my nose. Hope that helps.

Were you feeding the pelicans? Or, in Waterstones, the penguins ? My local bookshop reopens on Monday....can't wait but, being sheltered, I have to.

Hi everyone, appreciate it has been a while. With the slightly weird world that we live in at the moment I have not really been on here as much as I would have liked to. My hope is to try and be on a bit more regularly, and I keeping my fingers crossed that all of you, and those that you know, are healthy and doing ok during this time.

Basically just wanted to say hi again, wave a hand and wish you all good health at this point :)

Good to see you back. :cattail:

Hey everyone
Hey there. Welcome to the thread.

After a roller coaster of a day, a couple of days off....
There'll be some reflecting, looking for a particular photograph and taking new ones...oh, and a beef casserole to be cooked.
Enjoy your days off, especially Tuesday. :cattail:
May you find the photograph you are seeking.
Are there carrots in that casserole?

What a handsome troublemaker! Like father, like son.

I fell off the Lit-wagon a bit recently as well. Hoping to do the same :)

Same here, though more the posting. Many of the boards I follow have been quiet recently.

Wonder if at the start of this people though 'great i can spend more time on lit', over did it and have taken a break.

It's felt different to me too, I haven't found myself drawn to Lit, or with the light-heartedness that makes it fun to be here. I'm not quite sure how to 'restart', really!

Maybe you can show me the ropes as I'm a newbie to lit looking for community threads maybe like this. Plus I'm American looking for a new place to call home.

I get that, unsurprisingly the seriousness of several real life issues as inevitably found its way into lit, whether that's checking on friends health/metal well being in lockdown/ the myriad tanglement that is race relations/police brutality.

It does detract from some of the stuff that makes lit fun, sexual innuendo/PM's etc but at the same time shows that now matter how dark it can get, there is still some light and some good people around here.
