I think the two women on the Boots advert who are heading to the beach with their sarongs on are supposed to represent “ normal” women but look like a size UK 10/12 to me.

You are right. Not what I would consider the normal. Also they are all young and tall where more women are short. Not really even a good try.

As I may have mentioned I bought a couple of bikinis for my holiday despite not wearing one for 10 years. I’ve been battling to overcome the self loathing that weight gain brings. Anyway the other day I was pondering wearing a one piece or two piece for the first time when my 7 year old said “ your bikini wearing days finished a long time ago “ No idea where she’s got THAT message from. Obviously I wore the 2 piece but she was genuinely worried that people would judge me. She then got very upset because she knew she upset me. We had to have a conversation about people’s “ opinions”. I can’t say I felt that great heading to the pool though.

Seeing plus size models in mainstream media isn’t encouraging unhealthy eating habits it’s allowing people to see themselves represented as a valid human beings.

It is sad your daughter felt that way. It just shows that this barrage of messages in ads and media idealizing thinness and youth are still having a strong effect on the children.

yeah the US can be pretty prudish...there must be some nude beaches in CA though. Oh and pictures or it did not happen
