Happy International Women’s Day!
There was a day, not so long ago, when women were treated as chattels, not entitled to a say in their lives, not entitled to vote and at the mercy of men, be it their father or their husbands.
For most of us thankfully these days are gone. Women are finally approaching parity. But there’s a long way to go. In some counties women are still seen as 2nd class citizens and the birth of one into a family is thought of as a curse rather than a joy.
Also in all modern economies it is women who are most likely to give up their jobs to be the main carer of children. Society still somehow expects that there are jobs for men and jobs for women.
So there is still a long way to go. But go we must.
This IWD I will be celebrating the women in my life, the ones that nurtured my curiosity and loved me unequivocally those that have contributed to who I am today and I give thanks and praise to them. I think of all those women who have selflessly pulled society forward.
I encourage you all to do the same.
Peace and love to all women, everywhere

PS: for the men:
Yes you can and should celebrate IWD.
And yes, there is one. On the 19th November every year.
