But anyhow Boxlicker I gave someone in the contest a trollish vote and I left him a nasty comment with my name attached I'm surprised I didn't get slammed for that one. But seeing how many anonymous people have a bad opinion to leave, I figured I would give the author that chance to lash out at me in person. After all, if you really believe in your comment that you've left than why shouldn't you leave a name?

People vote for your stuff cuz Abyss was hella good and they know the rest of your stuff is Seriously when I started reading Lit stories I must have been reading the lowest stuff cuz somehow I developed the opinion that most people couldn't write. Acutally I commend you for leaving a trollish comment under your own name. If you feel that way and you admit it... then it isn't a troll vote but rather legitimate criticism. I never object to negative feedback (except those who chose to comment about personal violence they'd like to inflict on me for my story).

Trolls are not those with real comments... they are those who come in several categories 1. other writers who want YOUR boat to develope a major leak while theirs still floats. 2. Those who object to the category or this site's content who just maliciously try to blow holes in every story. 3. Those that hate YOU and are interested in doing YOUR story harm just because of who you are. 4. Just pure maliciousness.

I have no problem with anyone who is honest. If they really hated it enough to deserve a 1 bomb.. that is a legitimate vote... If they then tell you why (even if it's negative) I find that useful criticism.. NOT a troll. A troll zaps you for reasons OTHER than the content or quality of your work (like my raw typing withouth a spell checker).

Ali, this is strictly IMH) and "for what it's worth" stuff. If I'm going to lay something negative on a writer's story, I do it by PM or e-mail. Some people don't deal well with public criticism and sometimes it can lead to a others piling on. That said, most AH folks welcome any feedback.

SirHugs, I agree with everyone else, your story was first-rate. I also agree with Box that trolls seldom leave PC's, and if they do, well, it's a snap to delete those suckers.

Geronimo, you're right about Loving Wives. That category is a minefield.

EL, my heart, among other body parts, grieves over our being one shy of having a perfectly matched score on 69. Maybe after the next sweep.

So far, all of my PC's have been positive, not just in the contest, but in my other stories as well.

Tomorrow is the last day of the contest, I'll be glad most of the nastiness will be over, but I will miss the camraderie (sp?) in this thread.
It's been a wonderful opportunity for me to have met so many of you I didn't know before, and to make some new friends. In that respect, I've already come out a winner. Thanks all!

I agree with DP's assessment except that the second group isn't that simple. A troll might read an L/W story in which the cheating wife gets away with it, and one-bomb it out of spite, leaving an anon PC castigating the characters. If, however, she gets caught and her husband dumps her, the PC will be laudatory and will be proudly signed. Other trolls might read a celeb. story and drop a one-bomb because of dislike of the celeb involved or because they like the celeb and object to the way he or she was treated. And, I believe, there are lesbians who will one-bomb a lesbian story written by a man, usually not leaving any comment at all.

There are other examples where a reader will not dislike the story category but will object to what happens because of his or her personal predjudices or opinions. There is not much to be done about them.

Edited to add: Sometimes I consider negative PC to be a compliment. In an Incest story, for instance, a man pressures his 18 year old stepdaughter into sex. Anon left a feedback blasting him for being such a rat. The man was strictly fiction but Anon took him seriously enough to castigate him like that. I considered that to be high praise. My Halloween story has some comparable PC.

But seriously folks, I think a lot of us share your feelings about the camaraderie (you almost got it right - I checked) It's a big reason strange AH life-forms such as Og, Dr. Mab, and little ole moi have entered contests we're not eligible to win.
