My wife often says my breath is bad. I brush and floss & I've tried all the over-the-counter things like Breath Assure but nothing helps. Any suggestions?

Two words: tongue scraper.

I (like many people) would have "sour" breath towards the end of the day, no matter how much water I drank or gum I chewed. I brushed, flossed, the whole nine yards. I eventually gave up, figuring it must be something I was eating.

Then I read an article that said that over 95% of bad breath originates in the mouth, NOT in the stomach! The culprits are sulfur-producing bacteria that live in the soft tissues of your mouth - especially your tongue. You can try to brush them off with a toothbrush, but all that does is move them around because the tongue has so many crevices.

I asked my dentist about it and he suggested I get a tongue scraper. I figured he was trying to sell me some expensive thing that wouldn't do any good. If it was so great, why hadn't I heard of it before? But you know how much that tongue scraper cost me? $3. Yep, three bucks. Oral-B makes mine, and it cut my bad breath 100% - no fooling.

Here's whatcha do:
1) Brush your teeth. While you're in there, brush the inside of your cheeks and the roof of your mouth (lightly! don't scrub or you'll regret it!).

2) Floss once a day.

3) Use the tongue scraper twice a day after brushing. It's a plastic doohickey with a little ridge. You make 3 swipes across your tongue and you're done! You'll be amazed (& a little disgusted) at the goo that this thing pulls off your tongue! Makes you afraid to French kiss!

4) Gargle & swish with warm salt water, lemon water, or an antibacterial mouthwash.

That's it! Do this twice a day And PRESTO! Halitosis is bye-bye. You'll be amazed at how well this works. You can get a tongue scraper from your dentist, or probably even online somewhere. They're so CHEAP that everyone should own one. I'm telling ya, it's like magic! Changed my life! hehe

Great tips Laurel...
Also, bad breath is sometimes caused by dead and dying bacteria which reside in the crevaces between your teeth and gums, (sometimes referred to as periodontal pockets). These areas are usually attended to by a thorough dental hygienest during regular 6 month tooth cleaning procedures. However, rinsing with a 10% solution of hydrogen peroxide and water, twice daily will destroy most bacteria. Advanced periodontal desease needs to be treated by a dentist or periodontist.
Good Luck
ps..peroxide solution tastes like shit, and if there is alot of bacteria, will foam considerably. The foaming will subside with regular use. The taste can be improved by adding a little mouthwash to the solution.

This has gotten me so hot and horny I need to run out and suck some mouth! Hehehe, it's a good thing I already 'took care of myself'.

"How to".............. lose all interest in sex! LMAO

I think I need to go clean my bathtub now.... ; )

I used to have that same problem when I wore braces back in high school. I found that by brushing with baking soda and then rinsing and gargling with they mild hydrogen peroxide solution I removed all traces of bad breath. The Baking Soda and Hydrogen peroxide also whitened my teeth. Both taste horrible but hey they work. Good luck.

Hey Xx - shut up, you fucking crazy bitch.

(sorry - couldn't resist)

Damn, I've been screwing it up, haven't I? It's 'crazy fucking bitch' - not 'dumb fucking bitch'. Must have made her jealous, thinking I'm 2 timing and not getting the names straight!

Don't forget to scrape your tongue ; )

hey Xx!
Damn...I guess I forgot to mention my adult tongue scraper. The concept and practice is as old as man and woman, (OK, woman and man. don't want to get that started).
Modern technique has evolved to several 1/2 hour sessions for the first week and progressing to a 1/2 hour first thing in the morning and once again for an hour before retiring each evening.
The adult version of the scraper is free, however most treatment plans are required continuously to maintain that 'minty freshness.'

Holy Shit! This thread is HILARIOUS!

Oh, Rodrigo, pass the scrapings please.

This one made my day. <LMAO>

PHANTOM

mrhappy - I tried that peroxide gargle mixture (not because I have gum disease, but to see if it would get all bubbly and cool like you said). It didn't bubble much at all, but BOY did it taste bad! You were on the mark there! Had to gargle with mouthwash afterwards to get the taste out. But I did feel fresher afterwards...

And you thought you were bored this afternoon?

Look what I found on the very last page of How To.

I really must try this thing called sleep. They say it has a remarkably salutary effect on one's rationality.

Enjoy. ;)

I have to admit - nothings worse than bad breath in the morning.. it's gotten so bad with my SO - that I make him brush his teeth first thing in the morning!
:p

But then he's fine for the rest of the day.

I find it all depends on what you eat before you get out of bed in the morning. ;)
