Gun violence, American style - 1 in 5

It could be simple to stay out of these states,
if all the guns stayed there! Gun owners? Stay home. Protect those castles!

New Mexico city mayor temporarily suspends open and concealed carry in Albuquerque due to the prevalence of gun violence there. Law officers and armed guards are exempt. The violence got so bad she declared a public health emergency then went on to announce the 30-day suspension.

"[The] time for standard measures has passed," Lujan Grisham said in a statement. "And when New Mexicans are afraid to be in crowds, to take their kids to school, to leave a baseball game -- when their very right to exist is threatened by the prospect of violence at every turn -- something is very wrong."
Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 19 in New Mexico, Lujan Grisham said.
The suspension of open and concealed carry laws pertains to cities or counties averaging 1,000 or more violent crimes per 100,000 residents per year since 2021 and more than 90 firearm-related emergency department visits per 100,000 residents from July 2022 to June 2023, according to the order. Bernalillo County and Albuquerque are the only two places in the state right now that meet those standards.

The Kansas City Star reports that police ordered the teen's grandfather to get on the ground, but instead, he went back inside the apartment and locked the door. Eventually, officers got into the man's apartment, and he was arrested.

According to a witness at the scene, a gunshot went off in the apartment, and the teen walked into the room holding his chest and said, "Papa shot me."

The grandfather confirmed that he shot his grandson with a Glock .45 pistol but said he thought it was unloaded.

Here is exactly the problem with how mental health is viewed by the legal system. In Nashville a few months back a man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. he was examined by 2 doctors and found not competent to stand trial. BUT, and it is a HUGE BUT, he was not found mentally ill enough to be forcibly confined to a mental institution. Charges were dropped and he was released. A few months later he was arrested for stealing a truck and bonded out on $20,000 bail. Yesterday he was shooting at a car and hit and killed a woman walking in a nearby park.

Explain to me why this was allowed to happen? How is someone judged not competent to stand trial but not ill enough to be confined AND has the charges dropped? Then is bonded out for another crime and then kills someone with a gun? THIS IS THE PROBLEM. The legal system failed horribly here, as well as the mental health system.
