U.S. Plans Trials of Iraqis Accused of War Crimes

"The current abuses, the crimes particularly against U.S. personnel, we believe that we have the sovereign ability and right to prosecute these cases," Prosper said. "We are of the view that an international tribunal for the current abuses is not necessary."

Good news. And no international tribunals. I'll be interesting to see how many trials come out of this or if it's just a "Make the people happy" type declaration.

What does that mean, anyway?

Being charged with war crimes is only as good as a consequence is enforcable.

GWB Sr. and friends were found guilty of war crimes after Gulf I and I have yet to find anything that sites a consequence.

America will not administer the punishment decided by another court.

If the US tries them, we'll punish them.

Exactly. I am glad they have announced this, but I hope something actually comes of it, besides them rattling the saber.

They had the final meeting in the auditorium of Martin Luther King High School, lol.

Cute.

Re War Crimes - George Bush is safe because the USA has not signed up to the international Court System.

Our Prime Minister Tony Blair is so thick that he signed the treaty only weeks before Gulf War 2 kicked off. The consequence is that he and his cabinet could end up being charged with waging an illegal war and because of the treaty they would have to be extradited.

To be expected I suppose - he was so bad as a lawyer he gave it up in favour of politics - it is enough to make a cat laugh. - or a :p
