I am headed to the Big Apple for a week after Christmas. It will be the first time I have been there in 8 years so I am sure many things have changed there. What are some of the better BDSM themed clubs and is there one toy store that stands out among others?

Also, what are some of the better restaurants, bars, and shops so see of the regular variety. We are staying at the Marriot Towers at 7th and 56th.

Thanks

sadly there are not a ton of active clubs. If your stay encompasses the first Sunday you may enjoy the Baroness' fetish retinue parties. There's also the SMACK and BYTE parties - all these events are very femDom oriented.

As for clubs to play in, there is Paddles every weekend, which is low-maintenance and fun. Are you going with a partner or looking for mischief on your own? If you have a special someone to beat I would not be dissuaded from calling one of the better dungeons (Arena, Jasmines, Ball and Chain) and seeing if they'd let you have a space for an hour and toys, with or without attendant missy.

As for shopping - you are in nirvana. Purple passion is a wonderful store with just about everything known to man, and Demask rubber (which I believe has relocated to soho?) is also a wonderful place where you will be well taken care of. They're not just rubber, but also leather and all things medical bizzare and enema.

As for bars and restaurants and shops what are you looking for and what price point?

I was introduced to the Blue Ribbon Bakery in the west village by another Litster and I've since taken to telling everyone to go there. It's lovely. See if you can get seated downstairs by the really old brick oven.

If I were shopping for shoes at Otto Tootsi Plohound (overpriced) in Soho or Demask, I'd take in sustenance at Spring Street Naturals - it's been there as long as I've been alive back when soho was a no man's land. Mezzogiorno is nice for a brick oven pizza and a few good european suds in the same area. You can also go to chinatown and do no wrong (dim sum at the Golden Unicorn is above-average, if it's still there)

If you do the Paddles thing, you will want to fuel at one of the many low-priced Japanese places in that neck of Chelsea. These will also get you through shopping Purple Passion. Meriken is competent, and there's even better bento at this cheapo place across the street from there that I don't remember the name of but the interior is lots and lots of clean wood and it's busy.

I will be in NYC (and upstate NY - MIllbrook) at the end of this month, after Thanksgiving. Won't be in a position to play but the shopping tips are great. Prices? (Strangely, I often find that things are cheaper in NYC than San Francisco *shakes head uncomprehendingly*) :rose: Neon

Oh you're welcome, bear in mind I have not lived in NYC for a while now and my knowledge is not always up to the minute.

Prices - insaneish but commensurate on most items (like the folsom box and attachments I picked up) but you can see and feel and smell your item right there, not order by mail and pray. Also there *are* some good deals scattered throughout if you are inclined to be a digger. Demask has a sale rack (it's good to be little OR big) and purple passion just has some things that are perfectly good and still inexpensive. I scored leather pants for 125.

I would like to mention as a lingerie afficianado, that I scored 3 or 4 sets of wacoal and a silk robe for NOTHING at the downstairs of Daffy's on 18th.

Seriously, I stock up and haul back on undies.

Not really that pervy, but who's not a lingerie man? I imagine if you're *really* a lingerie man you might enjoy the extended sizes too . :)

Forget the book learning

If you're in the mood for an evening of "hands on" learning, check out the public calendar at TES

They are a not-for-profit educational group geared towards SM.

tr65, I'm so glad that you asked this question! thanks all for the good info, can't wait! :D

All the BDSM heart has gone out of this town. :(

As has most of the blood. Thank you for hooking me up with the Blue Ribbon bakery though.

Thanks so far for the info. Has anyone done any Broadway lately and if so what is good? Also can you still get good tickets from the TKTS booth and are the prices a lot better like they used to be or only 25% or so better?

I nearly went to paddles this weekend. I knew the guy giving the electro play demonstration for the domsubfriends group, but instead i guess it seemed better to watch 6 movies and clean my apartment. Then there's the first friday of the month munch.
So yeah i think paddles might be the closest thing you'd find for a club. I've gone to several bdsm parties, but they are normally semi private. (all i have to say: rooftop, meat packing district, me, 3 naked asian girls, 2 vibrating rubber duckies, and a kiddy pool.)

As for broadway, the major things there right now are spamalot, wicked, and the producers. then there's hairspray, aida and rent... The ticks booth is still going but for some of the larger shows you nearly have to buy ahead.

And i personally can't wait to go back to the city to have some more chips, salsa and a frozen blood orange margharita at vamanos on 1st ave and 19th st. Or cream puffs at bearded papa's over on broadway/8th
