Glass play

You have your whole body as possible reference and you use a ..chapstick?

Well... yes.
Body parts are non-standard, and therefore naturally unacceptable for reference of scale
If you want to see my toes, just ask :cattail:

Coins or a little ruler thingy are more common for forensic photography but must say really like the chap stick is cool and does show the size so well

 Looks like the consensus is against you, Primalex.

And I agree. You should just ask to see her toes. :D

I'm finding myself a little overwhelmed by the wealth of glass toys available.

There seem to be 3 primary types: smooth, bumpy, ridgy. Would anyone like to share their opinions/experiences??? Pretty, please. :)

Amazon carries Icicles by Pipedream Products. They're generally less expensive than the glass featured on Etsy, made of borosilicate, and, umm, are quite inventive as to shape. Pipedreams is based in CA, but I can't find mention of where the toys are actually manufactured. In the U.S.? Anybody know?

I think this little number may have scarred me emotionally. It looks like a curvy, pink tentacle....

Hmmm. For some reason Stella just popped into my head. :D

All of my toys are smooth, so I am interested in hearing feedback on other textures as well.

As to the use of borosilicate, and the country of manufacture origin, I also have a question. I read the posts regarding China, and I realize they probably don't have the same standards in place that the west does... but I am wondering what the specific concern is. That the material isn't really borosilicate? That there may somehow be unwanted chemicals involved? Has anyone been exposed to specific concerns regarding glass not made in the west, or is there just a general mistrust of the quality of some of the manufactured goods coming out of some regions? I am not trying to start some East vs West flaming debate here, I just want to know if there are documented concerns regarding glass originating somewhere specific so I can avoid it if founded.
Thanks!

No concerns that I know of. It's a safe bet that any glass you buy from a mass-manufacturer, like Pipdreams, will be made in China. That's just the way it goes. Me, I don't worry, but I won't tell you you shouldn't :)

There are very few things that will leach out of boro. It's dense and encapsulates pretty much anything added to it-- the surface will be nothing but glass.

If you really want it to be made in the USA, etsy is real good about adult goods, and there are spectacular shops there. Of course you have to pay made-in-america-by-an-artist prices. The cheap stuff is made in china, and being resold. No, Etsy doesnt care.

My favourite toy is a Don Wands glass dildo. It is, I believe, called the Bent G Dream.

It's well named. :)

My only pet peeve is that the handle can become pretty slippery when it gets wet (which is kinda the point of the thing, that it is going to get wet...) but I keep a washcloth handy to wrap around it when that happens. ;)

I love, love, love the glass. It's HARD. And cool/cold at first but oh so warm so quickly. I have my eye on another toy, basically a glass candy cane. I can put it out as a decoration for Christmas and no one will ever know!

I have two glass toys purchased at a event. One glass plug and a glass dildo(bumpy). Never any problems. Love them!

I am getting a new toy tomorrow from a colleague, I'll take a pic and let you know the results :) If you are interested in glass toys made by artists, you can try searching on the Deviant Art website. Or, you can pm me, and I'll give you some names of people who know what they are doing, as it all comes down to the annealing schedule, really.
Glass is inert; most of the ones I have seen are clear borosilicate (Pyrex is one brand), but there are some colored ones too. Boro color is expensive, and in general, the more colors you see, the more expensive it will be, as it takes time to apply, smooth, and many colors have some specific working properties that are finicky.

Another great quality about borosilicate glass is that if it does chip or crack (seriously, don't bang it on something hard, or against other glass... It's pretty solid stuff, but hey, it's still glass), you can send it back to the artist and they can repair it for you (if they do repairs). You should be able to get a good clear piece starting around $65. I would avoid things that have fine protrusions, or dots that don't look like they have been melted in well (like, stuck on top).

My first glass toy is great - has about four big "bumps", like an hourglass (but not going down very skinny). Rather effective. :) I'll find out what my second toy is like when I pick it out tomorrow :)

Please do post a pic. And results! :)

Well, despite the fact that I believe that I've seen everything when it comes down to kink, I'm humble enough to at least consider the possibility that I'm....wrong.

So, did anyone ever hear of a situation where penetration with glass objects (not glass shards!) did cause injuries or unexpected discomfort? With the focus on the material (if you stick a glass marble into your ass and don't get it out again, then it's not quite the fault of the material, isn't it?).

It seems there are people out there who are really worried about getting injured when masturbating with glass objects.

I know an ER doctor with some horror stories. It's a hard limit for me.

Steel doesn't break and has all the positive attributes of glass anyway other than clarity.

And it is a very nice toy to use with a violet wand. As far as electricity goes, glass is no fun at all.

I've never experienced the violet wand, but the combination does sound intimidating. I've heard from others though, and my guess is that it's only a matter of time.

I've not had the courage to bring up the subject.

Still, steel has the weight and the hardness and the freezer adds a...well, let's just say it's chilling. I appreciate that others enjoy glass, but no glass for this ass.

(Or anywhere else.)

Except when you're allergic to nickel...which I am. :(

If only titanium were heavier. On the other hand, I can't imagine how much a titanium dildo would cost, given that people who sell titanium jewelry want an arm, a leg, and your firstborn child for it.

Ugh, I can't even imagine what the allergic reaction to nickel might be, let alone from a sex toy, but it doesn't sound pleasant.

Titanium would be just plain novel, but I think it might miss the heavy feeling that steel has inside you.

I'm glad I happened across this thread... I've experimented with a (very thick) solid glass object, and vaguely worried about it. Now I know I had good reason to... Not going to try that again.
