I've always wanted one.. glass conducts heat, in a way.. it starts of FRIGIDLY cold, and then heats incredibly from your pussy heat. I'ts unyielding, which is something I like... I've never used one, but I've heard GREAT things... and besdies.. when you're done, you can wash it off and use it as a sculpture in your home. Definately something I would do.

From what I've read about the glass dildo's they are made of a pyrex type glass. Virtually indestructible! I've found some beautiful ones online. But expect to pay a bundle! They have run of the mill plain ole clear glass all the way to designer originals! So yes they are a piece of art! But I wouldn't pay big bucks for a dildo! Nope, not happening!

I suspect that as long as the dildo was SOLID glass, it would be fairly safe from breakage... assuming you don't drop it on a hard surface that is. Anything HOLLOW (lightbulb, et al.) should definitely be avoided. I've heard horrible stories about the results of a particularly strong orgasmic contraction...

And, bonus: Glass dildos won't be damaged by any type of lube!

It would be almost impossible to break one of solid glass, you would have to drop it very hard, or hit it with something metal or equally hard as itself (like another one)

Blowfish carries a selection of glass dildos, and also has information on caring for glass toys. Glass can indeed be very expensive (Blowfish ranges from $60-$200), but high-quality dildos usually are - most of mine were in the $50-$90 range anyway.

Another option is acrylic. You can do some amazing stuff with acrylic, like the Inner Space Observer (scroll down on the page), which is optically engineered so somebody else can peer inside! Also, Inner Space makes the Venus, Birth of Venus, and Arch d'Venus dildos, which I think are just beautiful - I'd love to get one! See also the acrylics by Cox Industries (one of them looks like a cop's nightstick!) and the other acrylic products carried by Blowfish.
