Below is a paste from correspondence between a writer I'm editing and me. I had asked her to expand a scene, to use additional descriptive passages. This is her (tacit) question and my answer. I would wager there are many writers out there, especially women, who can expand and improve on my little rant. If you are one, jump in. Help me explain it better the next time.
>As for more help,I am having a problem talking about the actual body parts.
>I mean,being the innocent that I am <dont laugh> I honestly cant think of
>too many different words to use. I am partial to descriptions like -"Oh
>please put it in now...." than saying "put your dick inside my pussy why
>dont cha?" And "harder, faster" than "please move your dick for me" Even for
>sex story there has got to be a limit to how many times a word can be used.
I'm not so sure that a large number of terms are necessary. Nor, am I
sure that they need to be referenced time and again. You can't very
well ignore them, though, if you write erotica. Apparently a whole lot
of sex is wrapped in sexual organs (well, Duh!). Sensations that may
originate in the pussy or cock radiate throughout the body. This is
especially true (correct me if I'm wrong) in women.
When a woman orgases (my own word, orgase->to have an orgasm), Her
vagina will open then close about the penis, the vaginal walls might
tighten over his entire length or pull away as if inflated. Her chest
and neck become almost bright red with the flush of blood as capillaries
open. Her nipples which have been puckered and hard seem to swell and
soften, becoming almost too sensitive to touch, as the areolae puff up
from the inflow of blood. Her stomach will undulate and her legs will
harden until fatigue causes them to vibrate. Toes will alternately pull
up and then curl under in synch with her hands that are clutching at
back, shoulders or chest. Her face may be relaxed or in near rictus,
with eyes tightly closed or staring at nothing. She is enclosed in her
own world of sensations. I see this, but cannot really know how it
feels (hey, I orgase just fine, thank you--but it's never as good as a
woman's. I'm jealous.)
You see, most of what's going on is not in the ____ (fill in your
favorite euphemism). As a writer of the female persuasion, tell of the
sensations. Make us know the feeling, physical and mental. Your male
readers may ask, "You can do that?" From the ladies will come a
collective, "Oh yeah." They know, and through your story feel it once
again.
