Giraffes threatened by extinction, put on watch list!

This is gonna sound worse than I mean it but if they did go extinct, would it matter? I mean what do giraffes bring to the table?

Not advocating letting them die out and I'm all for animal conservation, just wondering if it's a big deal or if it's just because we think they're pretty.

They came for the dodo birds but I didn't protest because I was never a dodo bird.

They came for the passenger pigeons but I stayed silent 'cause I'm no passenger pigeon.

They came for the koalas and condors and giraffes and I didn't squirm; I'm none of those.

Then they came for the accordionists -- and there was nobody to protest for me.

Are they good eating?
A couple days ago I drove past an old fave x-roads west of Sana Rosa CA with a Portuguese cheese grower on one corner and an exotic animal farm across the way. They used to raise wildfoul, impalas, gnus, etc for Bay Area French restaurants. I think they had giraffes too. Must have been good eating or they wouldn't have been commercially viable.

Then there's the story of the restaurant that proclaimed they would serve ANY FOOD IN THE WORLD. A fella walked in and demanded elephant steak, The waiter replied, "Monsieur, we will not kill our elephant for only one steak,"

Be prudent.

I feel like I've wandered into a novel where there is an entire culinary world that I'm completely unaware of.

What is a Portuguese cheese grower?

Well it's Africa so the protection list means fuck all and they will just get poached into extinction just like all the other shit in Africa.

Eventually probably only seen in zoos. I seem to recall that they don't breed well in captivity but I might be thinking of another critter.

There are all sorts of critters that won't fuck to save their species in captivity.

It's ok, everything goes extinct sooner or later.

Except tardigrades.....

They will likely be here until the sun swells up and eats this fucker.
