"I suppose I'll have to be the judge of all of that then." Kate said with a smile as Kell insisted that it was a small, completely stupid gift.

"Well considering you could afford just about anything you desired, most gifts are pretty stupid." Kell nuzzled against her neck and relaxed against her side.

"I can't afford everything that I want." Kate said, rolling her eyes as she snuggled up against his side and let out a side as her arm draped over his chest. "Everything that I have I've worked for...including you, Kell."

"Then maybe it won't be such a stupid gift. It's useful, at the very least." Kell pressed a kiss to her temple before settling completely.

"So, what is it?" Kate asked sleepily as she felt Kell relax beside her. "Or do I have to wait until morning to find out?"

"Khelt." Kate growled, snuggling up against his side a little tighter. "I'll beat it out of you if I have to. You know that I could."

"Mhm." Kell smiled to himself, but he was soon drifting off himself.

It was late morning when most of the keep awoke, and things were already all cleaned up and back in their proper places by the time Kate and Kell emerged. Chessie was serving a late breakfast and things seemed absolutely normal again.

Kate got her normal breakfast of eggs and potatoes, a side of coffee completing the meal. She knew that Kell was watching her every move, learning as much as he could about his future wife as he possibly could. It made her smile to think about that, the ring on her finger a new addition to her life. Soon enough, she knew the rest of the family would know what had been promised.

It turned out that Ciaran was the first to notice as he sat down across from Kate with Justin. Halfway into the meal, he reached out to take her hand. "What's this?" He asked softly with a smile, looking at the ring.

"A birthday gift from Kell." Kate answered with a shrug of her shoulders as her older brother looked over the ring on her finger. "What do you think it is?"

"Well considering I've spent plenty of time around Suara... Congratulations, little sister." Ciaran smiled softly. "He certainly didn't waste any time, did he?"

"We've already waited for a long time and Da gave his permission. He even helped to make this ring." Kate said with a happy smile on her lips. "And Ma had her talk with him the other day. He's been thoroughly vetted by everyone in the family, it seems."

"He'll get it all over again once our uncles see this," Ciaran chuckled and looked to Justin. "You'll get all of that too once they're all done being charmed."

"That will never happen," Justin grinned, leaning against Ciaran's shoulder.

"And when will the two of you make things official?" Kate asked, looking towards her brother and his lover with a smile.

"Probably never. It's more fun to listen to Ma badger us about it," Ciaran smiled, laughing when Justin rolled his eyes.

"Between your Ma and mine, I'll never hear the end of it."

"Ma just wants us all to be happy." Kate said as Ciaran joked about their Ma nagging him about making things official with Justin. "Don't be mean to her. I can't beat you up when I'm in Edinburgh."

"I'm never mean to her. You're the one she got her grey hair from," Ciaran teased, leaning on Justin. "I'm her perfect child."

"Hardly," Brogan's deep voice chuckled as he approached, ruffling Ciaran's hair just to bother him. "All o' you gave us hell one way 'r another."

"Is Ma still asleep?" Kate asked, looking around for her and not seeing her in the great hall. "Or are the twins giving her fits this morning? I wanted to thank her for yesterday and everything she and Gran and Chessie did for me."

"Still asleep. I took care o' the girls an' they're with yer grandparents. Figured yer Ma deserved a morning in bed." Brogan kissed Kate's cheek before settling at her side. He glanced down and smiled to himself, laying a huge hand over her own when he saw the ring.

Kate leaned in and kissed her father's cheek as he noticed the ring on her finger. "Thank you for helping Kell with all of this. I love it."

"I jus' wanted t'help my girl's Wolf give 'er th'best 'e can." Brogan smiled to Kell at that. "Was also my way o' showin' 'im 'ow much I trust 'im."

"I told Ciaran that he better not be mean to you and Ma. I can't teach him a lesson from so far away." Kate said with a smile as she glanced over at her older brother. "We all know that he can be a handful when he sets his mind to it."

"Nah, he's tamed down quite a bit. An' Justin'll keep 'im in line."

"With all due respect sir," Justin chuckled, "Your family's a little too stubborn to keep in line."

"Don' I know it," Brogan smiled.

"I'll have to go tell Gran sometime this morning so she can start planning a wedding before my coronation. Marianne wants that to happen as soon as it possibly can. She's ready for a long break from ruling and she intends to spoil Lynndon in that time as well." Kate said as she looked over at her father.
