Young Ruben nestled close to Julia, clearly already attached to her. He seemed rather lost when he wasn't at someone's side. He laid his head against her shoulder and closed his eyes comfortably, his little hand lightly gripping the edge of her dress.

Julia smiled as she brushed her fingers through her nephew’s soft, dark hair. She watched as he nestled up against her side, his head resting against her shoulder. She wondered what had happened in the little boy’s life to make him so soft spoken and shy.

“So, tell me what you like to do in your spare time, Ruben.” She said softly, hoping to draw him out of his shell even more. “Do you like to read? Ride? Hunt?”

"I like to paint the things I read," he answered softly, "and I like gardening with Ma and knitting with her." Not common things for a boy to do, but it seemed he and his mother had been on their own for some time, so he had no male role model to learn things associated with boys.

“Your Grandmother Kitty likes to knit too. Maybe you can help her with a project.” Julia said, making no comment towards his unusual hobbies. “Would you like to learn other things too? I’m sure your Uncle Brogan and Uncle Durban would gladly teach you to shoot a bow.”

Again, she ran her fingers through his soft hair, smiling at the maid who brought their refreshments out. She encouraged Ruben to eat his fill and as she ate her scone, watching the little boy, she wondered what she could do to get him out of his shell.

“I tell you what we could do, Ruben. How about we go down to the lumber camp when we’ve finished and see if they have any extra wood we could use? Maybe we can make our own chess set and I can teach you how to play.”

Ruben looked up at her as if enchanted by the idea. He was much more interested by mental and creative pursuits than anything. "Could we...?" He asked with a little more volume out of excitement. He slid down from his chair, responsibly stacking the plates and cups they'd used before brushing crumbs onto the plates and going off to take them to the kitchen. Selena had certainly raised him to have fine manners and to be very responsible. When he returned, he awaited Julia with a giddy patience.

“Absolutely.” Julia said with a warm smile as she watched Ruben take their dishes back to the kitchen. When he returned, she took his hand and led him outside, noticing that for once, the grey skies were clear and blue, the snow glinting in the bright light.

The walk was a short one and they stood on the outskirts of the lumber camp, watching the men work until she caught the foreman’s attention. “We hate to bother you, but I was wondering if there were any scraps that we might be able to get today.”

"O'course, yer 'ighness," the foreman smiled kindly. "What sort o' thing were y'lookin' t'make?"

"Pieces of a chess set, sir," Ruben spoke up bravely.

"Ah, I'm sure I coul' find somethin'." The man disappeared briefly, soon returning with a burlap sack full of small pieces and a board they could use. "Tha' oughta do."

“I think this will do nicely. Thank you, sir.” Julia said with a smile as Ruben was handed the bag and the little boy beamed with joy.

She took the boy’s free hand and they started their way back to the keep. “When we get the figures finished, I think it would be nice to paint them. One side can be done in the colors of the Ghis family and the other could be done in another.”

Ruben opened up more than Julia had seen ever before since meeting him, talking about how his mother taught him whittling and what not. When they returned, he set to work like an expert at his craft, carving all the pieces based on what Julia told him they were. Either side's set was carved differently, and after a couple hours, they were all finished and looked quite nice.

A serving man brought them some paints in blue and black for the Ghis side, and in red and white for the opposite, meant to resemble colors from Norway.

Julia watched over Ruben’s work, adding quiet comment to his designs as he asked. She had never seen him so expressive and bright. She enjoyed watching this little boy express himself in a way that he seemed to enjoy. Their little project took most of the morning and afternoon, ending about the time when the other members of the Ghis family started to return from their days out.

“Ruben, why don’t you go show Gabriel what you’ve made. I’m sure he would like to see it.” She said, encouraging a bond between the two cousins. “And maybe even your Uncle Durban.”

Ruben was glad to show the others, his happiness overwhelming his shyness. When Selena learned of this, she came to Julia and hugged her before kissing her cheek in thanks. "You're just the sort of Aunt he needed," she smiled to her sister-in-law. "Thank you, Julia. I haven't seen him so excited in a long time."

Julia smiled at her sister in law, happy that Selena was beaming over what she’d been doing with Ruben that afternoon. “He’s a lovely child, Selena. It was my pleasure.” She said, patting her sister-in-law’s arm.

She watched all the Ghis siblings pay special attention to Ruben and his exciting new chess set. It made her smile and slightly sad that she had never had that kind of relationship with her own brother. What all had she missed in the poisonous family she’d left behind in Chester?

Brogan was last to return, and he came to the children to see what they were so interested in. When Ruben told him about how Julia had helped him make the chess set, Brogan looked up to smile at his wife. There was gladness in his features at how she'd become such an important part of the family. He rose and came to her side to kiss her, "Evening, love," he spoke in a warm, deep tone. "Yer quite th'Aunt t'those kids."

Julia lit up the moment her husband walked into the room. She smiled broadly, watching as he expressed interest in what Ruben had done that day. That smile turned into laughter as he came to her side and kissed her, his voice warm and deep as he praised her interaction with the children.

“Well, it’s easy in a family as loving as yours.” She said softly, kissing him again before she scooted over so he could take a seat. “How did your day go, love? Did you finish all you set out to do?”

"I did," he nodded and settled beside her, wrapping an arm round her shoulders. "But it's still a secret, darlin', y'won't know til t'morrow."

"You're going to like it," Ashien grinned over at Julia.

"An' you, keep yer mouth shut, ye'll ruin it," Brogan warned.

"I've never told a secret in my life."

"Says th'lad who got us all in trouble tellin' Ma 'bout th' time we ruined 'er garden on accident an' blamed it on th'deer," Durban grunted.

Julia laughed softly as the siblings all seemed to know what was going on with Brogan’s surprise. She leaned over and kissed her husband’s cheek, glad to have his arm wrapping around her shoulder. She couldn’t help nibbling on his earlobe, tugging on it to show him just how much she’d missed having him around that day.

“I miss you, my lord.” She whispered against his ear, smiling as his gaze turned towards hers. “More than I can ever tell you.”

Brogan placed a secret kiss below her jaw on her slender neck, and muttered, "You're goin' t'get me in trouble, love," he couldn't help a chuckle. That night was yet another of bliss, but the next morning, Julia was awoken by a warm kiss to her shoulder, and some kind of box being pressed into her hand. Brogan's voice came, whispered in her ear, "Happy Birthday, love..." but she'd never told him it was that day.

Julia woke the next morning sated and satisfied. Her dreams were blissful and she let out a little sigh as she felt Brogan’s lips pressing against her shoulder. She brushed her hair out of her face and opened her eyes, frowning slightly as Brogan presented her with a box and whispered a happy birthday into her ear.

“For me?” Julia asked in a voice full of awe, her emerald green eyes turning towards her husband and she slowly smiled for him before taking the box and settling back on their bed to open it, wondering what he had gotten for her.

Inside the little box lay a silver bangle bracelet engraved with intricate Celtic knotwork and the Ghis crest, shining bright as could be. It was the perfect size for her wrist, too. On the inside, the words 'my love' were engraved in Brogan's own handwriting style.

"I 'ope y'like it, darlin'," Brogan kissed her neck lightly.

Julia stared at the silver bangle for the longest time, a smile on her lips as tears started to moisten her lashes. She most certainly liked it. It was one of the first birthday presents that she’d ever been given and she soon was throwing her arms around her husband, holding him tightly as she kissed him with a passion that she was coming to enjoy.

“I love it, Brogan.” She whispered against his lips, kissing him again in her excitement. “Thank you, love.”

"T'day's all fer you, Julia," he told her between kisses, "anythin' ya want t'do, we'll go out an' do." But then, with a smirk, he added, "'R stay in an' do." He stole another kiss and smiled down at her, awaiting her word.

Julia grinned at his words, blushing slightly as he told her that they could stay in and do whatever she wanted. She could feel the familiar wetness pooling between her thighs and she kissed Brogan yet again, her thighs parting for him as a silent invitation.

“I can’t think of a better way to start this morning.” She said softly, her hands trailing down his chest to cup his stiffening cock and balls. “And then perhaps we might go to the market.”

"Anythin' you ask, m'queen," Brogan's voice came out like a warm growl of arousal as she touched his shaft and woke it from slumber. In only a few seconds, he'd become hard as stone. He took her invitation, picking himself up and coming to his hands and knees above her. He sat back on his knees a bit and his huge hands slid down her thighs to her hips and bottom, shifting her lower body to just the right angle. He didn't make her wait as he often teased and made her do. Not this time, today was all about her. His thick shaft pressed into her waiting folds, beginning a lovely, slow pace that would allow her to tell him just how she wanted him to take her from here.

After claiming another kiss from her lips, Brogan whispered to her: "Guide me, love. Anythin' you want, anythin' at all..."

“All for me, love?” She teased as Brogan’s cock was soon rock hard and straining for passage into her body. She smiled as he picked himself up on his hands and knees before he sat back and slipped his hands down the curves of her body. She let out a little sigh at the contact as he shifted himself until he was pressing into her wet and waiting folds.

“Oh, Brogan…” She whimpered as he leaned in and claimed her lips, the very air around them sparking with the passion of the moment.

Julia let herself enjoy his slow pace for a moment before she wiggled away from him, a game of chase ensuing on the bed until she was facing away from him on her hands and knees, her bottom and pussy wiggling at him slightly as she giggled and teased her husband.

“I want my big strong husband like this…” She purred over her shoulder, her great green eyes batting at him.

Brogan caught on to her game quickly, chuckling as he chased her about, til he caught her when she paused on her knees. He smirked down at her as she looked up at him and his hands gave her hips a light squeeze, pulling her in closer. He sought entrance again, this time with energy, rocking her body at a steady increased pace. One of his huge hands reached beneath her, cupping a breast and massaging it luxuriously.
