Here is a good example. Perhaps a nice approach (not now, just in general) would have been, after interacting with her somewhere, to message her and tell her she has a beautiful smile or something like that, not expecting a reply though, as she probably gets a million.

Nope. The beauty of on-line interaction is the getting to know the personality. As Eilan said, what's preventing someone from putting up a fake AV? If he's a jerk and self-absorbed prick, then it doesn't matter if he looks like Vin Diesel, he won't get any replies.

That said, many women will not answer PMs unless you have established some sort of presence in the Lit community; post - substantially (and not just word games) - in some sort of forum. Make yourself 'public', so to speak. If you post in the AMPics, make sure you also post in other forums. Be polite and friendly, and also realise that many people who post here do not want to cyber or exchange photos or whatnot. They just want to relax and have some fun and adult conversation.
