A while back, someone put up a link to a US geography quiz, where one placed the states in the proper places. It was fun. Here's another one, a little more difficult for those of us in the States, I think, but interesting and fun as well.

European drag-and-drop geography quiz

I got 34 of the 45 countries within the allowable margin of error, with an average error of 82 miles. Don't know how well that will stack up with you bright young things, but it's what I scored. <Shrug>

Second time around, 39/45, 31 mile average error, 403 seconds (I'm slow with the mouse, lol). Those Balkan countries give me fits, along with rc's dot countries (except Malta - I know where that is because I've been there). It gave me a little easier order of placement this time - some of the smaller countries (e.g., Moldova, Macedonia) were already surrounded before I had to place them. They hurt me the first time through because I'd miss by a couple of hundred miles, even though I was "in the neighborhood." ;)

Considering it's been 40+ years since I went to Europe, I'm actually kind of surprised that I did halfway decently the first time through. After all, some of those countries didn't exist when I lived there, and some that did, don't anymore.

I got 40/45 with an average error of 15 miles. One of the 'dots' really boosted my average error - I was way off!

Consider how I've never left the country, and most people my age can't label the continents correctly :) I got 38 on another run. I'd keep doing it till I could get em all, but frankly it would be as useful as the digits of pi I can rattle off.

I am not so sure. We are all connected, indirectly, via global trade and via foreign policy. To the extent that we are a democracy and we are to have input into our government's decisions I think it is a good idea that we know a bit about other nations (especially if our government wants to go to war with them ). :(

Then again, I am a bit of a map freak and requested a world atlas for a birthday present once. (so I know I am out of the norm)

Not arguing with that, but I'm learning nothing about the nations, merely there locations. And while at some point its useful to know who a states neighbors are to understand the forces driving it, my knowledge of the areas in question is not nearly sufficient to make location information relevent to my understanding of the events occuring.

Also from my point of view, being in a democracy is more about finding a leader who you trust to make the proper decisions, not necisarrily one who happens to agree with you on a few issues, since when you vote it's impossible to know what issues will arise they have to deal with. ah well just some random musings.

40 out of 45, 18 miles of error, and 250 seconds.

Yeah, but you cheated.... you live in Europe. You should have gotten 45 of 45 with next to no error, in 2 minutes.

My thoughts exactly lol

Although after several attempts i still only got 34/45, its the tiny countries I kept getting wrong :(

:p :D

Mk, first try got four wrong. Vatican City (I put it around Milan), San Marino (I put it in the Po River Delta), Luxembourg (put it in the Saar region) and Bosnia (misplaced it with Slovenia). 8 miles off was the average. 272 seconds was how long it took me.

I feel st00pid.

34/45, 76% correct, 75 mile average error, 274 secs.

I put Slovenia and Slovakia in the entirely wrong region

And I just lived in France for five months  I should know more.

*goes to read more geography books*

Second time around:

1 country: Macedonia (dropped it too quickly onto Serbia)

2 miles average

203 seconds.

Clever people annoy me

Lol

I'm a geography nut. Though, the smaller countries will always get me and so does Former Yugoslavia. I have toremind myself that Slovenia nests Croatia. Croatia nests Bosnia. Bosnia sits on Serbia and Serbia squishes Macedonia onto Greece. And Albania sits there like a sore thumb. I also have to remind myself that Luxembourg nests in Belgium. Liechtenstein will always get me if Switzerland and Austria are not already on the map.

Huh???

Can you tell me in 'porn speak' then I may have a hope in hell of remembering?

25/45. Too much has changed since I took geography all those years ago (more than 20) ... Most of my mistakes were in the small countries that are rarely heard from and the break up of the Czech & yugoslav republic and USSR. *sigh*

In the Former Yugoslavia, there are four nations in bed with each other. Slovenia gets to be on top because it is one of the lighter ones. It's pounding Croatia in the ass as Croatia gives Bosnia a blowjob. Bosnia is busy eating out Serbia while serbia is face-sitting on Macedonia.

Like that?

Hmphh I knew you would do well,

But like shyguy your european, so thats unfair advantage!

Ahem! I seem to recall dragging _your_ country onto that European map just now. I think you are trying to pull a fast one on us. ;)

(27/45 - I kept trying to stick the eastern european countries into Russia.)
