Where is the passion today in our young people? What are the things that make you stand up and do or say something? Or are you all just a bunch of apathetic sheep?

I believe they are apathetic, its easier than reform and concern.

Slavery is Free, Freedom comes at a cost.

I've given this some thought like I know you wanted. ;)

It's not that we lack passion or that we're apathetic but it's just that we have so many choices. What it boils down to is that we have so many sub-cultures, in America at least, that our voice gets lost in the crowd. Everyone has a niche that they can fit into.

Take athletes for example. What used to be jocks has broken down into umpteen groups. No matter what the sport there are a group of young people who feel that's their place. Take baseball players, football players, surfers, skateboarders, or just about any other weird ass- didn't know it was a sport- activity you can think of and you'll find a group of young people who feel strongly about it. That's where their passion is directed.

The sub-cultures of the past have broken down into sub-sub-sub cultures. So the groups aren't as large and our voices aren't as loud.

Using sports as an example probably doesn't ease your mind regarding young people... it's just that it was easy. :D Don't be alarmed, we're broken down the same way on more "weighty" issues.

apathy n. Lack of interest or concern, especially regarding matters of general importance or appeal.

What you perceive as apathy is really just a lack of any one issue that affects or threatens all of these sub cultures we've divided up into. The young are still as passionate as ever. It's just that our fires are small compared to the bon fires of the past and they don't draw as much attention.

That said... I don't know what I'm passionate about but I'll let you know when I find out. :p

Some of us have INSOMNIA! Not I, but some of us! Yeah yeah, I know.... no sense, but I didn't feel like trying to defend myself against the likes of you. Waste of my time. Think what you want, you always will.

Yes. Just because we are young makes us lazy and causes us to not give a shit.

Most of the prptestors are young because that's when you are an idealist. Then you taste a bit of life, find out what absolute freedom and rioting have to offer and then decide that is not the proper responce to the situation.

Looking to start another argument Blue? The one thing Gen Xers aren't apathetic about is their right to be apathetic if they wish.

But hey - what's with all this generation shit? I'm 26, what generation am I? Am I 'young', can you pigeon hole me at all?

You get a grip too.

Besides blue loves you... you're one of his bastard children.

:p

I don't see this. My generation gets busted all the friggin time for getting all bitchy. Not every member of us but there hasn't been a generation that was 100% politically active. Most boomers weren't hardcore anti-war or pro-war activists and very few of them marched on Selma. I'll bet we're as, if not more, politically involved than any previous Gen.

Which Generation are you talking about Blue?
Gen X or the 'up and coming' Gen. (Which I refuse to call Gen Y, what a stupid name)

And yes, lavender, you're considered part of Gen X.. You're the tail end. Lovely no?

Which makes me the bumper crop of the 'yet to be named' Generation.

I would define Generation ZZZZZ'ers as=>

those of you who are currently between the ages of 18 and 24, ie. college age. Did I post this to piss anyone off? No, I'm simply looking for information.

So, what, if anything, are you passionate about? My son was, and still is, passionate about getting laid, music and writing. My daughter is passionate about her dog, her fiance, making money and shopping.

And Lavender, quit being so defensive and answer the fucking question. (Lawyers; you never can get a straight answer out of them).

When I was your age.....

:D
Oh, I get it, you meant this for the college students.
Okay, I'll just saunter out.

Most of my friends are passionate about their politics(Mainly because my friends are, well, my friends) Be it those that got busted with me in Seattle, to my homies at OCAP, to the Pro-legalization or even the insane freaks like my homey Todd.

The tone of the question is kind of irritating though. Most people of that age, regardless of the generation, are interested in frivs. Music, sex and imbibing things that make you smile.

I'm passionate about

Anthropology
Art
Atheism

And now moving on to the B's... (heh, just kidding)

(Side note: I once read that Generation X is everyone born from 1961-81. So I just squeaked in.)

I'm not sure if that one is real fair. I think it should be something like '61 to '75. 40 year olds have much more in common with Boomers than with me.

I know, it's hard to think of myself in the same generation as some old-timer four decade old ancient fogy. But those are the only actual numbers I've ever seen.
