I wonder how quickly we guess an author's gender?
I have occasionally been misled. Are there authors who's gender is impossible to guess? If you have not stated your gender in your profile, and you've posted three or more stories, I bet I can guess your gender from them.

(According to TheSpark's Gender Test, I'm 94% certain to be female).

Well, let's see.....the parts that are normally associated with being female are all there, so I think it has something to do with my brain must process stuff.


Okay. I'll take you up on your challenge. I've got 8 stories out here, take your pick! And if you aren't too repulsed, I would challenge you to read "Best Buddies". (It is under the Gar Male section just as a disclaimer!) Maybe you can tell me exactly why I've been getting feedback from guys who, despite the name, keep thinking I'm a guy.

Ok. Story #1, Best Buddies

First of all , congratulations. really, really good story! I was hard as a hard-hat's helmet!

(there is NO WAY any story could repulse me, if it's well-written -- one of the most repulsive stories I've read is American Psycho -- and its just brilliant).

Now, some gay men have a few things in common with women. So this one is a little hard, because gay male authors have female sensibility, so I'll cheat:

You're a woman (or gay male) because:

You the author are "in" Tim, and tim is basically "fem", even though you make it he who does the buggering (clever of you).

Tim refers to, and identifies with, Rick's emotions-- a feminine (and attractive) way of communicating:
"Rick, how have things been going for you since Cynthia broke it off. That must have been tough for you – you were dating her, what, 3 years?"


"Cute Blond" and "brunette" is surprisingly lazy, as though the author were not really interested in them sexually. (I do know what you were doing here, showing their homosexuality)

The storyline is like stuff I've written and fantasised about, from the male POV, so let's see:

Thanks for your insight into "Best Buddies". That one really had me baffled, and I've been getting feedback which suggests I might be able to have my pick of "online" male subs! Problem is, I felt awkward asking my hetero guys friends to read it.

now, there only about two or three questions in that test which are the specific deciders for the entire game. and dears, it is a game, never forget that. the majority of people i know who have answered it have all scored around the 86% mark. it's a test which has been around for a while now.

I was getting the same thing. On nearly every page. Just hit Reload or Refresh on your browser. If it asks you if you want to repost from data, or something like that, say yes. You may even have to do this a couple of times. Be patient. It will eventually work.

I started this thread after I was surprised to learn that ronde is male (or so she claims ). I really think his stories are great. Classy stuff. I recommended that he contact a predominately female publishing house, on the assumption that he was female and wouldn't have to lie about his gender.


But I can't see tell-tale signs of his male gender in his writing at all.

Maybe that's what being a really good erotic writer is all about?
