How many are there? I was thinking about the Leia thing and that's more of a Gen X thing.

But my list right now is one

The Lyrics to Jump Around.

I forget what age range Gen-Y consists of -- I always thought I was generation-X, but I'm not so sure anymore... I might be able to help if I knew how old Gen-Yers were, lol.

Essentially it's whoever is younger than Gen Xer's who are 1960-75.

I was born in late '75, so I'm right on the borderline. But, among my friends, there are several near-universals:

Atari and old Nintendo game systems
Sesame Street & The Muppets
The Facts of Life & Family Ties
Nirvana/Pearl Jam/early 90's Seattle music
Microserfdom

So, technically, if Generation X only lasted for 15 years, shouldn't there be a Generation Z now? Kids born after 1990? I'm a Generation-Yer, then, and I'll try and think of universals for us. :) Here's a list of stuff I can think of off the top of my head:

- cartoons like Thundercats, Heman, Gummi Bears, Transformers, etc...
- all sorts of 80s music (I'm thinking a lot of the female artists, since that's what my friends were into: Paula Abdul, Whitney Houston, Madonna)
- Fraggle Rock
- The Princess Bride
- New Kids on the Block
- Skip-Its
- big bangs (I'm talking skyscrapers here)

Huh... I'm sure there's much more, but I can't think of it now.

*Raises his hand.* Commodore 64 long as I could remember. Learned how to read a great deal from watching a bunch of the RPGs my dad would always play.

Heh. My guy was ALWAYS named He-Man in those. Ah. Youth.
