This is unusual for the category and an obvious attack.
This happened to the Magical Mystery Tour Event put together by Blackrandi as well. I ignored my score for a month. It went up after sweeps. Like, it went up a lot.
This is for Alice and everyone here, everyone who participated: Thank you so much for writing for this event and putting yourself upfront like this. Ignore the score, give the rest of us a chance to read and comment and vote. Wait at least two weeks, if not three, and then take a look at your score, and your comments, and your private feedback, and everything else, every reason that made you want to write the story in the first place. THEN decide whether to give up on Sci-Fi/Fantasy as "your thing" or not. Do not give it up to the trolls for a few unwarranted 1-stars. You are stronger than that.
Me, I only just woke up, earlier than usual even. I haven't read a single story yet, but I am thrilled I don't have to manually put together a list!! Oh my god, this gives me more time I wasn't expecting this morning. What do I do with myself?? What should I look at first??

Alice, and others... I second Etaski's statement. Don't let the early low scores discourage you. This event was bombed without cause, just because they can. It is definitely no reflection of your writing skill in any category. Unfortunately, this is what happens when a story gets bombed... the writer's confidence drops to zero. Just know you are cared for and respected despite the hate of some. Above all, keep writing. Sends love to everyone.

Well this sucks. I just took a look at the Sci-Fi & Fantasy page to see if there were any New stories that aren't part of the GPD, and my story wasn't listed as "New". It looks like we had too many submissions for all of them to fit on the "New" screen. An unintended consequences of having a single-category collection, I suppose. I mean that's great for the project and all. It just kinda sucks for my story, and probably one or two others.

But, on the up side, someone read my story, and voted. It's only a 3, but I suppose that's not too bad for a first story. Now, I'm hoping for some constructive feedback.
Later today I'm going to look for an editor or beta reader for my next story, which is ready to go (not Sci-fi / fantasy).

Mine as well, which might explain the pokey pace at which it is getting viewed. That and its abysmal score. It had occurred to me that this would be a problem.

Yep - looks like everyone's been one bombed out of the gate. Do NOT worry about it, everyone's going to get a 1 and a 3 straight up, then the real readers will kick in and give your story some proper scores. Give it a couple of weeks before you cry "woe is me, sci-fi ain't my thing."

I'm watching the game with equal parts patience and a morbid sense of humor. I need it because so far my story has a grand total of 3 votes and a mean score of 2. Some people just don't like cephalopods.

To add insult to injury, every story I've looked at so far got the same "Looking for mature man" spam comment. Reported. Lit needs a better spam filter, and soon.
When I started back in '12, this shit didn't happen. What the fuck, seriously.
