Geek Pride Day! Official Support Thread

pssst....its fiction;)

I was a hybrid in high school. Read comics (not trendy for teens back then) loved HP Lovecraft(also not trendy then) played D&D and had straight A's

On the other hand I was sarcastic as hell, beat the piss out of anyone who tried to bully me and played Baseball at an all state level and competed in regional martial arts tournaments.

They really didn't know what to call me....maybe jerd...jock nerd?

They called you HOT, silly!

THE LIST

Status: SUBMITTED

...

I plan to pull together a Complete List, with links, here at this thread. Then we can put the link in our Author Bio page or wherever, to give easy direction to the stories in this event past the first week.

A very exciting list. The waiting is killing me. I can't bring myself to start anything else. Seriously, if Winds of Winter came out the same day, I don't know which I would read first.

It's been ages since I've been this nervous. Haven't slept so badly in years.

Awesome.

I was wondering because of the first time author comment someone made. I expected that it would take longer.

Well, this is technically a bit of Geekdom, so...

Today I reclaimed a bit of my childhood. About six weeks ago, I had ordered a G1 Optimus Prime figure, which arrived about an hour and a half ago. It's been almost 30 years that I last held one of these in my hands. Sadly, it's only a Chinese knock-off. But in the end, I only paid 40-ish Euros for it, which is quite a steal compared to the triple digits even the 2004 reissues command nowadays, let alone the 83/84 originals. Getting one of them complete in box is nigh impossible and/or prohibitively expensive.

Well, no pics. Lit doesn't like plastic toys. Or off-site linkage.

Here are some pictures, for those interested.

Oh you're making me cry. I watched my kids destroy so many of those transformers.

Bad link, but no matter.

Hasbro 1984 edition in box and complete is $390.00-$500.00 on EBay. Yikes! Transformers are from my kids' generation, so I'll let them think about it.

I've never lost contact to my inner twelve-year-old. And about ten years ago, the collector's bug bit me. Now I have a damn whole room full of those plastic beasts. :) But I couldn't find an affordable G1 boss bot. Until recently, that is.

I'm so happy! :)

It looks like we're going to have a wide variety of different kinds of stories, which should make this fun. Am looking forward to setting aside some time to read others' submissions.

It worked! Cool-looking stuff.

Mine (The Lieutenant) is still at "pending". Let me check again.

Nope, still pending.

Thanks Puckit for organizing this. Even if I don't get published, at least you inspired me to submit a story. I have been writing for this site since before Christmas, but I just couldn't get up the courage to let one of my fledglings leave the nest. Thanks, and get well.

If there's a date next to pending, then I think it's been approved and you won't have a problem. Mine says pending too, and with 5/25 as the date.

No date next to "Pending".

I'll just be over there tapping my foot patiently :)

Since time is short, it might be worth a PM to Laurel asking if the submission got lost in the shuffle. It happens occasionally, and a polite inquiry usually gets results. If something did go sideways with the submission, it's probably better to have Laurel notice sooner.

Ok, I am really new (and thanks for the assistance), so I am going to ask a really rookie question. How do I contact Laurel? I see her name all over, but I don't see a link or anything.

First Timers

I find it interesting that this event has inspired so many people to submit their first stories to the site — I am curious as to why... what was it about this particular genre that inspired so many of us as opposed to any other Literotica event or contest?

For my own part, I have been writing a fantasy novel for some time now, and was planning on leaving the rather racier aspects of my main character’s exploits out, and the other day when I saw the deadline for submission looming, I had a sudden flash of story inspiration and thought, “Why the hell not?”

Well for me it was a perfect storm. I saw the contest. I had an idea. My wife (I'm retired) suggested I start writing full time (for shit and giggles)

I've been puttering for a year now and figured it was time to put myself out there. I almost talked myself out of it because I'd left it so long but....

It wasn't helped by two characters taking an abrupt turn left at the last minute and holding a conversation that completely gutted my previous ending. I almost deleted that until I realized it gave me an alternative sneaky ending.

But in the end, the ending wrote itself and I love it cause it leaves everything wide open for a host of sequels etc.

But all in all it gives me a chance to exercise my brain before old fartism sets in.

That’s awesome! I love it when characters I’m writing decide to go in a different direction than where I’d intended — it means that for you they’ve become living characters, and that carries through for the reader. Looking forward to reading your story! Your description intrigues me.

No, but this is great! This is exactly what an event like this should be: encouraging, affirming, tutorial, and entertaining to boot. I’m proud of all you rookies stepping out.

And I’m nervous, too: my output here is fun for me to write and it gets received well enough, but this is my very first foray into SF here. I hope it’ll get marginally accepted, but even if it doesn’t it was a shitload of fun.

You and me both, Voboy. I have a half dozen little stroke stories to my credit, but this is my first Sci-Fi and the most ambitious thing I've written to date. The reaction is sort of going to determine if I take another shot at a "real" story, or if I should just stick to smut.
