It is huge here, I will be away for a while I think;)

If you see it on the television, I have been asked to be on a float by the gay boys, to be the cruel queen as they pull the float. They are still building it, we will see and they may want a Queen instead of a real woman but no matter. I do not care

It is partys and dancing, dancing, dancing. Much fun. Many people come for it

gay and lesbian mardi gras?

Must.....resist....urge.....to make......bead.....joke.

not a big thing here, as "straight" Mardi Gras is. But 2 weeks ago, an aquaintance was shot at our mardi Gras, and died last week. good kid, only 19.

I am sad to hear that.:(

Too sad

The Mardi Gras here is the biggest gay and Lesbian event in the world I think? Many come from all over and Sydney knows how to organise the crowds? There are floats from groups in America, Britain, Europe, everywhere. The police here have their own float.

There are no hotel rooms in all of Sydney and the olyimpics did not do that. We are staying with friends.

Not only am I from "the Big Easy" but I spent 11 years with its force. Trying to regulate order during Mardi Gras was always the most difficult job of the year.

From all that I remember of Mardi Gras, that is the major time of the year any and every gay/lesbian person can "come out of the closet" and no one objects to it.

My biggest objection to Mardi Gras was that the tourists would always piss in the streets and in front of businesses.

I watch it on TV every year..

.. it's a great opportunity for gays and lesbians, and their families, to come out and celebrate.

I just love the Marching Boys.. celebrating with a sense of humour!

Do you have your mardi gras confused?

Doubt it. I've lived it for 37 years.
If you don't believe me, take a short walk and a deep breath on Canal Street.
Everytime I would catch a person attempting to urinate in public (namely in Louis Armstrong Memorial Park or the step of City Hall), I would ask them if I could come to their city and piss on a famous statue or plaque.
