Gallup: Tea Party support dwindles to near-record low

I took a month or two off Lit and came back to Vette in some kind of drug trip. Or was he always like this?

Another King O's C & P.

Um, King, the article's screaming headline is deliberate propaganda. But, um, you probably know that already.

The real key takeaway is that 1 in 4 American's are Tea Party supporters, 1 in 4 don't like it and 2 in 4 don't have an opinion (despite the constant negative propaganda demonizing it in the media).

I know it is a good summary of the content of the story, i.e., support for the TP has declined. It would be bad journalism not to put that in the headline. I was a newspaper copy editor once. The news-hook goes in the headline.

The real take away is that support for the Tea Party just got cut in half.

Support for the tea party is closer to 1 in 5 and opposition is more than 1 in 4.

Oh the horror of a government shutdown....

Whos going to spy on me?
Whos going to be taking away our rights?
Whos going to be wasting our money?

Government shut down is a good thing!

According to polls people like Obama way more than the Tea Party. Even if you let Vette cherry pick the piss out of polls it's still that way.

See post #10. Apparently contards reject the relevance of any polls that don't tell them what they want to hear.

It's hard judging the popularity of the TEA party, because more than half the population have no opinion. However, if you extrapolate from those who do, the TEA Party approval rating is very close to Obama's.

People said that about Romney they day before the election too. How did that turn out?

I think Romney had quite a bit of support. I also think many Christians voted with their religious convictions, knowing that would mean a liberal victory. Romney being a Mormon was a huge problem for Christians. Simple as that.

Aren't Mormons Christians?

The better question is aren't Mormons closer to Christians than Muslims are?

How exactly are we supposed to extrapolate the data to come to the conclusion that the Tea Party is remotely comprable to Obama in terms of popularity?

Guess it depends on your description of Christian.

Generally speaking, Christians believe Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah. Since this part of Mormon doctrine, they are Christians. There are many differences with main stream sects, but that is the bottom line.

Obama's current approval rating is 44%, which is the same as that of Bush at the same time. http://www.gallup.com/poll/116479/barack-obama-presidential-job-approval.aspx

Of those who held an opinion, 44% of persons polled support the TEA Party. (27% opposed, 22% in favor, 51% no opinion or similar response.)

So the polls were rock solid after all.

Except you just said they weren't. Which is it? It can't be both.

Wellll . . . Mormon doctrine is so fundamentally different from other branches of Christianity that it really does strain the definition. The mythology, historiography, theology, soteriology, are all different. The concept of the afterlife is different. What Jesus is doing in the story is different. Satan is Jesus' brother. It's like, the Orthodox and Catholic and Protestant Christians are all sitting at this table over here, and the Mormons are sitting at that table over there. (While the JWs and Adventists and Christian Scientists are just kinda hovering around looking for a seat.)

I'm a Unitarian Universalist, myself. We sit wherever we feel like at the moment. Also a SubGenius, and we own the restaurant! :D

Obama's approval rating is now 43%, which is a drop, but still beats the Tea Party's by a mile.

Oh, and you shouldn't capitalize the "TEA." That backronym for "Taxed Enough Already" was invented after the movement was already going.
