(( This letter to the editor was in a large cities paper recently ref the little girl who dies as a result of being struck by a puck during a hockey game. It's just FYI, let your heart decide what you do about its content ))
To Whom this may Concern,
I live in the small community of West Alexandria, Ohio and we have had an incredibly hard week after one of our children was killed in the tragic hockey puck accident. Our community is a small local community of about 1500 people and everyone in this community have been affected directly or indirectly because of this
death.
The news media have moved into our town like vultures and as you are aware People Magazine reporters have been amongst the media that has found our little town.
I was appalled to find out that while the parents are in this deep grieving and were dealing with this child's viewing one of your reporters stood in line for well over an hour to get up to the Mother and hand her his card and said call me when you are ready. He was promptly escorted out of the Funeral Home. We may be a small community but I can tell you the word will spread widely and we will make sure that People Magazine will lose sales over this stunt. What part of the parents statement for respect of privacy until they were ready to issue a statement does your magazine not understand. We are not movie stars that
have put their lives in the media we are common everyday folks who see your reporter and the others as an intrusion to our privacy. For one minute think about if you were standing at the viewing for your own child and you have asked the media to please respect your privacy and then a callous reporter who wants nothing more than to try to dig up what can't be dug up hands you a card and says call me! I hope you never have to be in this situation but I can tell you that even the classmates which my son is one of Brittanie's are disgusted at the mass media that has invaded our town. If you want a story why don't you go to the NHL and see what can be done to better protect our children at these sporting events. Once again we may be small but we will be mighty in this situation and make sure that everyone we know passes the word of your magazines tactless efforts Brittanie was a beautiful little girl and our community loved her and all the parents have asked is for their privacy and we respect one another in this small town which is obviously more than your magazine can do.
