I killed my landline a year ago, my auto-popup calendar just reminded me - it was a year ago today. I have no plans to get it back. I killed cable, too, and only stream now. I haven't owned a watch in seven years. My cell phone tells me the time.

Which technologies have you ditched? What do we all boot next? Poll to follow.

Land line - gone
Cable - gone
Paper Magazines - gone
Newspaper - gone
Large stereo - gone

I just realized I haven't owned a paper calendar or a day planner for at least five years. Our admin used to come around every November and ask what kind of cal and planner we wanted for the next year. It's been years since she did that. She doesn't even talk to us anymore, she just puts stuff on our Outlook calendars. She's sneaky, too. I have to put in fake events so she doesn't book me up.

I drive a vehicle with manual transmission and roll-up windows. I don't wear a watch.

You fools do know that all this constant unnecessary new electronic crap is just a way for big companies to separate you from your money?

As someone who makes a living from a big technology company, thanks for paying my bills, suckas. ;)

Today I ordered my first big screen HDTV and realized that the analog CRT set that it will replace probably hasn't been manufactured for at least five years.

Our landline is still cheaper than cells. One day we'll be rid of it.

I haven't worn a watch since before cellphones existed.

I can't wear watches, I stop them so I stopped trying about 15 years ago. I don't have a landline but I do have a Magic Jack because I live in the woods and for some reason my bedroom is a huge bag of suck for cell phone reception.

I still buy CDs, I enjoy the versatility of them. I also like to think I'm a bit of a purist in listening to a whole album instead of one or two songs I download.

I wish I could get rid of cable, it's such a money sucker but that's not my choice as there are other generations in the house and APPARENTLY we need the NFL package. I'd say I'm straddling the fence really well. And sort of enjoying it.

My landline is gone. I only got calls on it from salesmen and politicians.

Cd's will be next. Music will soon be all digital. Apple does not even give you the option to burn discs on their newer laptops unless you purchase an external burner. There is no pop out built in anymore for CD's

We've been without a landline for well over two years.

I'll be hanging on to my CDs for a while. Has anyone noticed vinyl making a small comeback? Better sound quality. MP3s leave a lot out, but what the hell, so much out there is actually worth listening to.

I wish vinyl's would come back. It is the only way to listen to Jazz. And Blues.

Jazz Record Mart, Near North side, Chicago. It's unbelievable.

My landline always operates. It's great. I love it.

  • 100% reliable
  • excellent fidelity ( no static, no fading, no bad calls)
  • predictable expense
  • no contract
  • no fine print
  • cheap ($300 per year)
  • no batteries
  • no charging
  • no gimmicks

The same people always get suckered by gee-wizardry.

They even have begun to manufacture turn tables again.

Who'da thunk? I never should have sold off my Steppenwolf!

Yeah, out here in rural America, we would like to talk to you about that 100% reliability of land lines. They go down. Sometimes for days, even weeks, on end. Nothing has taken out the nearby cell tower yet. Two years ago, the weather took out every telephone pole in the boot heel, but not the tower. Worse yet, we're the last ones on the line...

Three years ago, a tornado bent the local cell phone tower in half, cutting off all service to my rather affluent subdivision.

We were convinced the apocalypse was nigh....

I ditched the same technologies as you.

Landline - still have the dirt cheap, bare bones version primarily for emergencies only, like power outages. Dial-up still works. Fondly referred as 'The Bat Phone'.

Cable - gone

Satellite - gone

Newspapers - Still read them

Watches - Still wear one at work.

Cell phone - Prepaid because it is cheaper with no contracts and no haggling over service contracts and bullshit charges from AT&T or any other major network.

TV - Free digital only.

Home security - Self installed w/battery backup and computer/laptop download option. On the job, I use a portable, secondary security package for remote job sites or temporary situations where an electrical company is not immediately available.
