Is Laurel sweeping votes every day? My last two votes were 1's, no pcs. Sigh.
And no one else is voting either. Sigh again.

Early this morning (my time) you were no. 2 on the Reviews Top List, then you dropped to 10, now you are not on the list at all. This is what happened to me yesterday. Minx's story was listed twice for most of the morning, in two different places.

I've had no votes today other than a '1' whereas others seem to have 10 or more votes against their Top List score today. My 'read' counter still says 0 on the one story that doesn't seem to be attracting attention.

Also no new stories posted today despite people announcing they had submitted. I'm beginning to think they have a software problem.

Within two votes I dropped by nearly .35. I figured someone saw me on the top list and decided to knock me down. Who knows.

DP- I get what you're saying. No way to know why people are voting 1's. Whether it's trolling or annoyance at seeing serious essays, the votes should be swept. At least in my opinion.

A sure sign that this was always going to be a bad idea is that you don't see a shadow of Rumple around this place. Kinda tells you he saw the problems (smartass).

I really think we need to look beyond the simple numbers and ask why this is attracting so much venom. I know the votes in 'Reviews' come slowly - it's taken me a year to get 60-odd. But that doesn't explain the vituperation. You'd expect most readers here to be broadly on the side of freedom of expression. Sure, you get into thick, brown stuff if you stray into politics but, really, the entries are pretty reasonable.

Even Bearlee's so-called rant is really quite restrained.

I've got a satiric, a bit anti-religous essay which I'll save til later. I was planning to finish my more serious piece over the weekend but I'm having second thoughts. It's like downtown Baghdad out there. I don't need this!

Where's Lou? She's chickened out.

PS. Too scared to go on the PC's but here's my initial take;

SJ: A tour de force. Should be published in the New Yorker.

Neon: Second was a tad too academic. Thought the first was superb but could have benefited if the janitor wasn't quite so blinkered.

Cloudy, Angel. Bearlee: Wish I could write like that. Way to go, guys.

Thanks for your comments. The second, I agree it is too academic, I'm delivering a similar reading in June, in Lublin, Poland but linked to the work of an artist who delivers political messages through her installations. I took out the references to the artists work and re-shaped it, it's lost some of the 'softness'.

You can see a connection building here.

The dialogue piece: I've met many people with similar, if less extreme, attitudes. I think you need to 'paint' in extremes to get this kind of message across in this format, else you are left with trying to contexualise bigotry.

Just out interest, did you vote today, 'cos my stories have registered nothing, nix, nada.

Mine have. I have 3 new votes and a lower score. Sigh, lol. Kinda fun checking the numbers, but...

Yes - I 5-bombed you this morning.

Your 2nd post was great - just a bit too rich for this place, I think. Good luck in Poland.

Sorry, but I just thought if the janitor wasn't such a pointy-headed guy he might have challenged the Tracey Emin superiority and made more of a fist of his opposition.

It's OK, I'll go back to geekdom - it's better than dumbfuckistan! ;)

But you're so cute when you pout! ;)

I'm curious who has their 25 votes already? I don't; I'm at 24 now but I know at least 2 of those are going to be swept (I hope!).

I think only three people so far: cloudy, bearlee, and Sean Renaud.

Vote on mine when I finish/submit it, and you have one already. Deal? :D

I've read and voted on all of the contest entries. With them trickling in a few at a time, it's much easier to read them all. So both of you already have a guranteed vote from me.
