I haven't gotten any hate comments or mail yet, but I sure have gotten the votes.
I have 19 votes to date and the score has plunged to 4.11.

There appears to be some particularly stupid activity taking place.

Minx's story (see above) was holding second place in the contest some several hours ago according to the Top List - it has dropped like a stone as she reports and is continuing to drop. My 'Images' story switched between third and fourth place, up to 4.43 and has since been voted off the Top List - it's dropped below 2.4.

My second story has only received 7 votes all day, others have received up to 50, whilst this may not be odd in itself - people don't have to vote - there has been no hit counter against the story all day, anyone else noticed anything odd.

If we can't post Free Speech here, where can we post them. I'm going to pull mine.

EDIT Laurel has acted remarkably quickly and removed the culprits. Anyone else who has a problem should alert Laurel using the report feature at the foot of the story.

People don't realize that by critisizing us for writing about it, they're only proving what hypocrits they are.

Laurel has just corrected it. I've been waiting patiently, it was when it disappeared off the list that I got really mad. Check yours, she may have cleaned all of them. And thanks.

I agree Neon, don't pull them. Cloudy's right that the negative pc's are just proving the point.
I'm lucky that my essay isn't all that controversial (at least it doesn't seem to be, among lit readers), so my scores are pretty consistent. I'm definitely not getting alot of votes, though. I'm sitting at 17 right now, and most of them came from contest participants.
The good news is that the one bombs will be swept, which should help.

I wonder if L&M had any idea what kind of feedback this contest would generate.

Regarding you Dannish friend getting his little message in his ear - 1. the U.S. government doesn't run the phone company; 2. perhaps it was on his end not this end - did you check; 3. if your phone company doesn't want to allow this kind of talk - switch to one that will allow it.

um.....a clue to where the little recording was coming from could be that it was in ENGLISH! (and, for the record, I never said the government ran the phone company)

I'm actually not getting as many negative PC's as I'd expected, what I am getting is strings of '1' votes that appear to be little more than a deliberate campaign. I'm also concerned that one of my stories, whilst receiving a few votes does not show the number of hits, it's been at 0 since the story posted this morning. It has also not been hit by '1' votes which makes me wonder if the dang thing is working properly. If people don't want to vote for it, that's fine, but without being able to see the number of times it is being 'read' I have no measure of whether the system is working.

Mine shows 0 views as well, so I understand what you mean. A glitch in the system perhaps, maybe because they're rushing to get the essays posted?

The votes are coming fast.....mine went up this morning, and already has 26. They're not necessarily good votes, but they're votes.

Mine just went up this morning and I'm at 18, and I don't think I'll lose any of them after a sweep. So it is possible to get the 25, I think. I'll feel alot better once I actually get my 25, tho.

Sorry I wasn't around earlier. Glad to know I held second for a little while. I just checked the lists and I'm glad to see y'alls scores have gone up. Mine shows 0 views as well. Must be a contest thing, or a glitch, lol. My score has gone up quite a bit, but of course I'd love to see it go up more. Campaigning for votes will soon commence. Kisses y'all!

I moved from 23 and 6 to 18 and 7 overnight my time. One rating went up, the other down. Looking at the lists indicates heavy vote pruning across most stories.

SJ... well.. mine isn't up yet.. so maybe my comments should be withheld until mine starts getting hate mail, 1 bombs, and views.

BUT... I expect that the typical lit reader isn't gonna be overly interested in an essay.. therefore I propose that the huge bunch of 1's are not trolls... bombs.... not anomolies... but reather comments of "this ain't what I came here to read" expressed in votes and not comments.

I had vowed to stay out of this one.. but couldn't resist.. just to see what happens. I expect a bunch of negative comments and low scores... and low vote count.

I guess I'm just saying I have preped my skin with armor and my psyche with low expectations.
