I got a D in "trying to get my car up the muddy driveway" the other night. :rolleyes:

Come to the panhandle of Florida where we actually do see snow every five or ten years. There is nothing funnier than watching southern people attempting to drive in a half inch of white stuff. :D

Some years ago, I lived in a village at the top of a hill. We were right beside the sea and so hardly ever got snow. But when we did, there was one downhill road that always caused the locals problems - skidding this way an that.

On one occasion, I followed one of the village's grande dames down the hill. She was driving, pretty much in a straight line, at about two miles an hour. And when we eventually reached the bottom of the hill, she turn the steering wheel hard right, and the car continued pretty much in a straight line, through a fence, and came to rest up against a large tree. :D

I always get a certain amount of dread and fear going when I look in my rearview mirror to see an older Lincoln Town Car behind me and the only thing you can see through the windshield is a giant pile of blue hair just above the steering wheel. :eek:

We occasionally have similar humour in England.
The South [especially the South-East] has it's own microclimate is often very cold, but dry. It does not suffer much from snow.
The North, on the other hand, especially the North-West is moist and often gets lots of snow.
It's a standing joke to hear the National Weather bulletin warning about driving in the snow in and around London; it could be as much as an inch.
They tend not to bother too much with similar warnings in Manchester because Mancunians usually know how to drive in it.

Well, it's similar to sand but wet and light and falls out of the sky.

<snigger>
We have not had a real proper snow storm for a long time (Praise the Lord).
A few years since, we had BAD stuff; Devon & Cornwall cut off, and Yorkshire almost vanished (the BBC tended to be even more centred upon London and it's environs that the rest of the country; it hasn't changed much since).

Hey, I thought it was a good explanation. :rolleyes:

We haven't had a proper storm in a while here either, more rain than snow. I wouldn't mind a good foot or so of snow. Except that the "menfolk" in their infinite wisdom decided to grade our driveway and it's a buggered mess now. :mad:

Did they include 'potholes' or similar inconveniences ?

They dug the damn thing up in the middle of winter to smooth it out when we were supposed to have rain and snow and above freezing temps for the week. It's not smooth anymore. All I asked for was a load of stone on it. :rolleyes:
