Twenty-eight years ago this month, the step-brother of a guy I grew up with proved sometimes you don't need both engines or even most of the plane to keep it in the air and get it back on the ground safely.

Aloha Air Flight 243 ~ April 28, 1988

At twelve seconds into the video, you can see Capt. Bob Schornstheimer standing in what was left of the first class cabin helping passengers. In true "I'm the captain" fashion, he refused to leave the plane until every passenger and crew member was off first.

Wife just showed me a video of a catastrophic air accident: two members of a stunt plane team attempting a 'thread the needle' manoeuvre (I think) collided in mid-air. She thought it was recent 'news' but listening to the announcer's voice it sounded like it was from the 1950s.

'Take a Look at Life Again Soon' - delivered in the best BBC RP accent :)

The Australian ones in newsreels from the mid twentieth century to the late 50s-60's are even worse. Such plummy accents before Australians realised they had perfectly usable ones.

I'll vouch for your diction anytime, Tio. ;)

Thank you, Mer. :rose::kiss::rose:

That could be taken so many different ways...

;)

And that one of Mer's most endearing qualities: she takes it so many different ways. Every time I see her, it's a veritable Romanian Rhapsody! :D

Oh, yes you have an accent.
You just don't hear it with your Canadian ear.

No, HP. That's just because you're so used to that English accent of yours that you think I have the accent!:D

Don't worry about going all the way to Canada, half the people in the next county probably wonder what HP is saying. :)

Anyone reading that might assume that I'm not talking English. :D
Shame on you! :)
People in the next county understand me perfectly, thank you.

Got my ol' Grandad's shotgun for the job. . .

I've got my old Grandad's pocket knife - a so-called 'Western Castrator' to skin the thing. (watched a documentary last night on Yupik people - Siberian eskimos - who were busily skinning wolves, seals, whales, caribou etc, so I possibly could handle a snerk).

And who all will raise their hand to admit they have been suckered into a snipe hunt at least once in their life?

(yes, mine is already up. )
