A lot of the subs here seem to be members of Grits. Girls raised in the South. That's a good thing. My fluff thread for the night.

How'd you figure that one out?

I was raised in the DC area - borderline south, technically below the Mason-Dixon line, but I've been raised with a more northern mindset.

One G.R.I.T. reporting in to be counted, sir. Born and raised in sunny Florida. Mother is from southern Georgia.
Love collard greens, field peas, white rice with stewed tomatoes freshly baked cornbread, fried chicken, and finished off with banana pudding. Mmmmmm good stuff! :)

-kym- little miss southern belle :D

so would it be easier for me to find a dom if i'd been born away from the west coast?

Okay, someone please explain to the poor dumb kiwi, wot's a "grit"?

FWIW, grits is also a breakfast meal. I believe it's corn. I think I'll have some now, as a matter of fact.

Oh but Etoile..............GRITS are much more than JUST part of a well rounded southern breakfast. :)
There's fish n' grits, fried grits, cheese grits, garlic cheese grits sue-flay for all of those gor'may Bubbas, the recipes for grits are endless.

-kym- Not a grit connoiseur :p

so is that why? hehe... I wonder what my excuse is, I've been raised a nyc child.

and I like the new reasoning why i'm not big on oatmeal or grits... though... I love farina, no one else does, i feel alone :( !

guess i'm a GRIT also, as i was born and raised in the rural backwoods of virginia....my grandparents own the property that their (and my) ancestors were once slaves on...personally i think that's very very cool. :) i remember going out in the veggie fields and picking the collard greens, kale, tomatoes, corn, sweet potatoes...helping my grandma can the sweet peaches, eating half of them in the process, lol. i'm glad to be from the south, despite the obvious racial issues that still exist. and it's definitely easier to find Dominants in the south, imo. just because that's how most were raised.

That I did know. I'll see your grits, and raise you... vegemite!

Raised way up north, in Wisconsin... never even heard of grits until I moved down south.. ~*lol*~

I'm not from the south myself, but would you mind passing me some chicken, cornbread, tomatoes and pudding?

Grits too, if they're on the menu! :)

alright, i have to say it.

people, grits are just nasty. i mean, seriously, they have the consistancy of baby snot. they have no taste of their own, and they look suspiciously like something that came out of a very sick person.

THANK YOU
I have been accused of not being a "Real" Southerner 'cause I don't like grits or sweet tea
The ONLY reason grits are a traditional dish down here is as a show of stubborness....they came about during the Civil War (and I will bomb the first person who calls it the "War of Northern Agression") when the people here didn't have enough to eat
they came up with grits from leftover HORSE FEED
Ewwwww

On the OTHER hand, I do like RC Cola & Moon Pies :D
Oh yeah, and G.R.I.T.S. :D

Butter and salt is the key for making plain grits taste good.

I have an awesome recipe for a cheddar & garlic grits casserole. You'd never even guess that it had grits in it. ;)

i'm not sure what they're actually made of, but imagine this: if you took some paper and left it in water over night, then took it out, mushed it up, and added a generous amount of jizz, that's pretty much what grits is like.

One more G.R.I.T. checking in!

I don't eat grits either, although G.R.I.T.s are another matter. ;)

Grits are made from the milling of corn kernels. The first step in the process is to clean the kernels; then, the grains are steamed for a short time to loosen the tough outer hull. The grain kernel is split, which removes the hull and germ, leaving the broken endosperm. Heavy steel rollers break up the endosperm into granules, which are separated by a screening process. The large-size granules are the grits; the smaller ones become cornmeal and corn flour.

I guess you people don't like cornbread either.

Grits are good with fried eggs and toast.

good morning.

Yeah, you have to kinda mix them up with the other breakfast stuff. About the only time I eat grits is at the waffle house, and that isn't very often. My sister-in-law makes really good yellow grits on holidays. I eat a lot more oatmeal. I'm not crazy about it, but I think it clears out my arteries.
