Something I've meant to do and forgot:

To all the authors who got swept up in the last Phaze round-up:
[\QUOTE]

What's a Phaze round-up?

Several of our very own AHers recently got Phaze contracts. Aurora Black and English Lady are two of them. I'm so proud of them I could just bust. :D

My Publisher is now offering a new line that she calls HOT FLASHES. These are generally around 10,000 words in length. I think that many of you here write stories that long so you may want to try and Submit them.

HOT FLASHES

HOT FLASHES

Saucy. ;)

So how does Phaze work anyway? Do they go through and read stories and find ones that they want to publish?

I'm posting just to subscribe. Nothing of value to offer. And now, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Skip, you do realize that there's a drag bar at the top of each page "Thread Tools" that you can use to Subscribe, don't you?
I've done this from time to time...I'll find an interesting thread that I want to follow but have nothing interesting to add at the moment...

Unhappy with current publisher...definitely interested in finding someone else.

Can you tell us about it in case it's something we might want to watch out for?

Just a big hassle about the cover art. Not informative about what is required with it. I am looking for a new publisher.

Yeah, but every time I pulled the menu down it showed 'unsubscribe'. Maybe 'cause I was already subscribed. Besides, I need to build my posting count so people will think I'm prolific.

*giggles*

Hey, speaking of art.. I just did some art for my Nano story (I know, art is not word count, but my characters cockblocked me today). I'll show it to you later. :D

Well, back on topic a little, Miss Aurora Black hosted a chat today that was fairly informative about publishing professionally...Maybe she'd like to post some highlights of that chat here?

Okay, this was why I bumped it in the first place.

A lot of the e-book publishers have some pretty demanding guidelines, which is a good thing, but for those who haven't quite gotten into the submission phase yet and just want to be prepared, I thought I'd put some of the more common ones out there

  • Have a website, even if it's just a writing-centric blog
  • have an idea of how you want to market your book, what genre it fits into best
  • have a good grasp on how you're going to help them market your book: self-promotion, advertising, etc
  • this isn't on their lists but on mine: if you are in anyway vulnerable by writing erotica, get a pen name and a separate email account specifically for that pen name. Yes, the publisher knows you're real name, but your fans don't need to.
  • proofread. then proofread again. then have someone (or maybe several someones) proofread for you. and then proofread again.
  • even if you get rejected, jump back in. maybe you need to do a quick revamp/rewrite first, but keep trying. :D

Okay, that's it for now, but I have some other links I plan on posting asap... I'm a little swamped right now, but I'll get there.

Using my own name.

It's my work and I'm taking credit for it. ;)

Well, my current course of study is going to land me in a classroom if I don't make a mint selling stories, so I have a pen name. Three actually, but I only advertise one. ;) Some stuff isn't even remotely related to Lit stuff, and I don't want it ever associated with that aspect of my writing.

To what is it related? And why don't I know about this? Bummer! Bah. Humbug.

Women who write erotic material should always use Pen names. There are a lot of nutcases out there who can quickly become stalkers or worse.

Quite right!

I used to work as a teacher for youths on the road to destruction.
Writing smut would not have qualified as a good reference, I think.

Now, I'm a social worker. Same story.

The minute I became a member at Lit and had to pick a name, I got an email to go with it. All my smutty ( ) activities take place under an alias.

:D

Because unless you're in my son's class at school, you wouldn't enjoy it. :D

I have many facets, beloved KISA.
