For those on the Publishing for Pay trail...

Generally- if I'm planning on putting something in for a publisher to submit, I remove it from the Web or don't ever post it there to begin with. I have a list of stories that are pure Lit fodder, and a list of things I'm holding back. Only my editor and some trusted test readers get to see them before I'm ready to sell them. :D

But that's just how I do things.

A lot of us love what we do- but it's becoming difficult to live to write without writing to live. Thank gods I'm lucky enough to do well with formula fiction- I can write about anything, given enough coffee and motivation. I realize not everyone is like that, but in skimming through these lists I kept thinking- "Oh, my. Selena would make a killing there!" or "I wonder what they'd think of Rob's "Abyss"? Or Darkniciad's "Home By The Sea?"

 Le Blush- You must be one of the handful of people besides me who liked Home.

I love that story so much, and it consistantly gets lower scores than darn near anything else I've written, no matter where it is posted. It also consistantly gets some of my most glowing feedback, but doesn't seem to help the score any *laugh* Niche stuff I guess :: shrugs ::

I'm not ready to be published for pay yet, I have too many kinks to work out. My editor is helping me nix some of them, readers here and abroad are helping me with others, but no matter what a few of my readers say, I'm far from a skill level that can demand payment at this point.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress.

I've been checking out publishing opportunities at The Erotica Readers & Writers Association.

And as always, I'm stuck in between categories. Very few of my stories are short enough for a lot of publishers, mostly magazines.

And none are long enough for book publishers.

Can't win for losing.

I've sent out two pieces so far.

One was rejected. It 'didn't fit their needs'. That story is currently #1 of the BDSM top list here.

The other, I'll have to wait until the publisher has her baby before I hear anything.

OK. Done whining.

I use the same website, Rob. I got me 1 shorty published in a Canadian magazine so far.
My only story of any length, 7 chapters here, got the same negative you did. Probably because I have a priest killed in it. LOL

I do keep trying, though. Every now and then I send something out again.
And I have two separate folders as well. Some of my stories never go on Lit, but are safed for publishing elsewhere.

:D

As for stories put up here ... I know Dr. Mabeuse pulled some of his off this site, because they went into print.

Thanks Rob for the link.

And thank you Tulip for the follow-up of info.

And yes Darkniciad, I liked.

I'll probably surf about today for some more links, because I feel too sick to do otherwise.

After reading Casting of Convention I'd be one of those who disagree with your assesment! :p
You've got a great style with both the combat and erotic...Your characters are believable and well rounded and seem perfect for character developement (at only 5 chapters the chances so far have been minimal)...

Oh, did I fail to mention I can be the king of tangents?

There are still a couple of "Players Handbook" style phrases in Casting... things that sound more like role-playing descriptions than story. I'm working on that...

Back on topic. I don't know how I could write something at that 5000 word limit. My shortest story, Thakkor, clocks in at a little over 5500. It is more or less set-up and a sex scene, nothing more. I just can't jam a story in those restraints *laugh*

One of these days I'll be ready, but I'm looking at Novella length, I should imagine. I could never fit in those tight "short story" constraints.

Definitely the sort of thread that I can use right now. Thanks, Falling, for starting this.

Very welcome.

I keep skimming through links as I can, trying to sort the good from the bad.
Some of the links available are bad, or havent been updated in a long, long time.

Another site listing magazines that are seeking and paying for work.
There's one on the page that this links to that some of our resident How-To writers would probably love.

It seems like a well-maintained site, although I haven't verified yet how up to date their material is. If anyone submits a query to anything on there, let us know, would you?

Another e-book publisher, though you'll have to Google the link.

Altea Press.

I'm going to fumble through some of my older links and see what I come up with today.

Dunno if any writers here would be interested ...

I'm sure that every last person here is subscribed to the Writer's Digest e-mails for writing tips and submissions and so on, but I thought I'd throw this out here just in case one or two of you might get the itch to try for it ...

Another publishing thread on AH
I fgured I'd drop this one in here...It's another of the collection of publishing threads here on AH...

BTW FtF, have you thought about editing the initial post to index the various links we've found so that anyone can pop in to the first page and get the compiled list?

I've gone through today and copy/pasted all links into the very first post of this thread, so someone can find them easily. Thanks to everyone who has added new ones... any more that people have found useful lately?

A new link for this thread, given to me by one of my favorite fans

Ocean's Mist Press

You guys may want to check this out- I thought of six authors off the bat that could do it, lol.

Something I've meant to do and forgot:

To all the authors who got swept up in the last Phaze round-up:

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

FTF...I love you. I can't wait to check out some of these sites and submit (heh). I'm going for broke and eating saltines...
