For those on the Publishing for Pay trail...

Because unless you're in my son's class at school, you wouldn't enjoy it. :D

I have many facets, beloved KISA.

You can't assume that, Mylady. My literary tastes cover a very broad spectrum. And I already know not to think you are ever at any limit. Even your facets have faxcets.

More fun stuff- Piers Anthony, who is one of my absolute Favorite Authors of All Time has this incredible list of e-publishers for authors to look in on. Take a look! I have a feeling that some of them would be absolutely perfect for some of us.

Click! CLICK!

Just for info... I scanned the print publishers in Writer's Market]/i]. This is what I found -

Out of about 500 pages of listings :

70% only publish non-fiction

20% only publish books for children and young adults

10% publish novels or novels and some combo of the other two cats

Of the publishers who take novels, about 10% only take sci-fi, about 5% do erotica. The largest genre was Romance and Historical Romance. (Both non-erotic)
I only found one publisher who did Romance novels who asked for heavy sexual content.

The E-Publishers were a lot more open to the typical Literotica story.

I think I'm writing Kiddy stories from now on

Can't blame you there...out of curiosity, which publisher asked for heavy sexual content?

And thank you FtF...I love Piers Anthony too...probably the first real novel I ever read was "A Spell for Chameleon"...

I'll have to search for it. Since I don't write graphic erotica, I didn't mark it. Give me a bit.

Ok... here it is...

Chippewa Publishing LLC

Their splurb: "Publishes 45 titles/year; imprint publishes 12 titles/year. 45% of books from first-time authors; 90% from unagented writers."

I didn't check them out because I wasn't interested. But their website is www.chippewapublishing.com

They may be an e-book publisher. It's hard to tell from their listing.

They're an E-Publisher.

I know that Black Lace Publishing takes erotic romances. They were the first publishers for Emma Holly. I Googled them and found this List at this Link. Some of these are E-Book publishers only. But I know Black Lace does regular publishing.

Black Lace Publishers, etc.

*drags thread back from the depths of the board*

I discovered an interesting contest that people might be interested in!
Shomi Writing Contest
Some things to note, when they say unpublished author, self publishing and e-publishing don't count by their rules...they're talking about having a hardcopy novel...
It is a legitimate publishing company...heck, I picked up the book I discovered the contest in at Wal Mart...Also been seeing it around at pretty much every bookstore...

The story guidelines are a little specific, so you should probably check out the FAQs page...

I have a new lead, and I will be given out the pertinent info shortly (have to go copy/paste something).

This is a VERY SPECIFIC genre.

- Short, erotic stories that are suitable for audio recording. This means dialogue and action that will translate well into sound.

- Monologues and first person viewpoints discouraged.

Here is the direct information regarding what they need.

I have been looking for some material that could be adapted to the style of radio drama and produced as audio stories. Short stories written in 2 - 4 character dialogue are of a particular interest. Ideally I would like to work around about 10 minute run times which would be, in written form, ca 3000 words, more or less. Any legal subject could be considered.

Here is a sample of something I literally threw together in an afternoon, including writing it from scratch and producing it. This was done in monologue only so I could test both the concept as well as all the recording gear, get the correct levels, check the teleprompter speeds and how some of the background effects would work in. The pacing is off [a bit too fast] in the first half and the story text itself needs some small edits, as well as I want to lay up some music on it, but you will get the idea.

Runtime: ca 7 minutes.

Here's another all together more fun kind of piece... an unspoken joke in the audio.

Runtime: ca 28 seconds

I trained as a broadcast journalist but never actually used that skill set in practice having worked in print journalism instead.

The marketing concept is intended to be directed to create a sort of audio "iPorn" for the iPod generation... something to listen to while stuck in traffic on a morning commute. I'm betting, and on good advice, that so few of the younger generation that don't read books today, have also never heard radio drama performed either. ["Radio? What's that?"] Even here in Britain, the BBC is the last of the few still producing and broadcasting any, and in the US I don't think there is hardly any, if any, done for broadcast today either. Possibly only NPS radio would do it.

I will get the email address for queries and have it to you guys ASAP.

Getting paid ...

It's what I do to make a living and a good one. Writing snd getting published.
The real question isn't whether you can make a living from your ability to write, almost everyone I find in the pages of Literotica could.

The real questions deal with making a living writing what you want to write.

1. Writing the novel or short novel (novella) is 'crapshoot'. Just getting read by a publishers reader is beyond difficult and as a result you need an agent and that's another story in and of itself.
2. Technical writing in all its forms is another thing all together. How to get an assignment even if you're a real (but unknown) expert. I include writing advertising, sales letters, etc in this genre.
3. Take a look at Triond.com and Textbroker.com to get a decent look at other peoples expectations of you. Textbroker is not a scam although some people have accused it of being that. These formats cost nothing. ($0.00)
4. Do you really like to write or do you like the idea of 'being a writer'
5. Do you have stories to tell?

Good Luck
