Sadly, Maonaigh passed away a couple of days ago at the age of 83. He wrote semi-professionally from the 1960s, with most of his stories falling under the blanket heading of weird tales. Back around 2015, he stumbled across Literotica after not having done much writing for a few years, and found that Literotica gave him an outlet for his writing without the hassle of editors, deadlines and the dreaded tax-man. I joined Literotica around the same time and we stumbled across each other stories and started chatting offline - Maonaigh was never active on the Authors Hangout but he was full of good advice for a Literotica neophyte with very little writing experience, and humorous along with that. We read and enjoyed each others stories, and it was Maonaigh who gave me the idea that kicked off the "Hammered" story event 3 years ago.

Gonna miss you, Maonaigh - and like you said, maybe in the next incarnation.

His two entries in your Hammered story event are ranked #2 and #4 All-Time in the Non-Erotic category. He will be missed.

Too many of the critturs are being taken out of our oldsters pen. Incidentally Maonaigh is a Gaelic word meaning wealthy, but in a spiritual sense rather than just a material one, which sounds about right.

Thank you, Chloe, I got the message yesterday. He was a true gentleman. His stories were excellent, and I always looked forward to his comments and email. Those of us fortunate enough to have known him will miss him, and treasure our memories of him and his good humour and intelligence. RIP.

He was a friend and a mentor to me from the start, commenting on my very first story and following up with an email, which I happily answered. I met him about a year after my own father died, and I realize now that he was in certain ways a substitute father for me, but one who took an interest in my writing, unlike my biological father. Over time, he became the first person I would run ideas by and share fragments with, and he invariably supported me and made excellent suggestions to improve my stories.
God, I'm going to miss him. A wonderful writer, and a generous and kind human being.

On my very first story here he gave a warm and welcoming comment which helped settle my nerves and gave me the confidence to continue this crazy hobby. The site has lost a great resource.

I had asked him once how Maonaigh was pronounced, and he told me it was pronounced like his last name - Mooney.
