For those of you that have or want to have children....

it was easy:

1 - Boy (or Girl)
2 - Thing 1 and Thing 2
3 - Wynken, Blynken and Nod
4 - Death, War, Pestilence and Famine
5 - A,E,I,O and U
6 - I'll change MY name and move

One choice for our daughter was Theris Louise and the other was Devin Louise.

If she had been a boy the choices were Devin Lawrence or Aiden Lawrence.

Theris is the name of the Man's babysitter when he was little.

Devin and Aiden came from a baby book.

Louise and Lawrence are my grandparents middle names.

When she came out she just didn't look like a Theris at all. So Devin Louise she is.

Raegan Amanda= Raegan was the name of a girl I danced against in competition before I was pregnant. I loved the sound of the name, and how unique it is. Amanda, well.. it just went with it.

Christian Michael. I loved the name Christian, got it from hearing it all around. Michael is hubby's dad's name.

Gillian Lyla Isabella- Gillian originally got brought into the house from Practical Magic. I loved it, and took it as my handle. If Chris were a girl, his name would have been Gillian. Lyla is after my grandpa Lyle, and Isabella is a name I used as a handle briefly as well.

You've got really high asperations for those kids, don't you Bob?

I know where they come from, so I know what they are capable of :)

Let me tell you, sometimes I think that Thing 1 and Thing 2 were meant to be quadruplets...

BTW, if you've never read Good Omens, you should...It's hysterical!

I had narrowed it down to three choices for each of my two sons. I can't remember the three but I had to see them before I made the final desision. They just seemed to look like the name I settled on.

With my son, Cody, I was 8 months pregnant and I had a dream in which I saw him as a little boy of around 4-5 years old and I called to him by that name. When I awoke, the dream stayed with me so clearly that it was almost as if it was meant to be.

With my daughter, Holly, the name just came to me one day and instantly, when I touched my swollen tummy, I just knew that was her name. Plain and simple!

My son: I wanted to name him John or Jonathan. My husb wouldn't consider it as it was too common. After a horrendous childbirth, I was given permission to name him whatever I liked. In the interest of compromise, I chose Ian.

My daughter: I named her after every baby doll I ever had as a little girl.

Chosing names was difficult as my last name really sucks. LOL So, short and sweet works :)

My eldest child (a girl) had her name picked out since I was about 13 or 14 I think. The only change was that her father put a U in her name to make it different. (Alexaundria Nicole)

My second child (son) was going to be a junior at first,I hated it so we compromised and used his daddy's initials. But of course being who I am, it couldnt be spelt the same as how normal people would spell it,and he goes by his middle name. (Christian Samual)

My youngest (a girl) was conceived during the reign of Beverly hills 90210 and the charactor of Andrea, who asked everyone to pronounce it as Ondrea. Since I too wanted it to be used that way,I just spelt it with the O. (Ondrea Symone)

Madison, because I thought it was unique (and apparently so did everyone else that had a girl 5 years ago  ) and because I like the meaning of it. Strong Warrior from the books I've seen it in.

Cady means simple joy, and that's exactly what she is.

Other options were Kathryn (after my mom), Madeline, and had either of them been boys, I would have named them Jackson or Xander.

We never picked out a girls name because well, we never considered the fact that there was a 50/50ish shot that he would be a girl. He was always a boy to us.

The StudMuffin wanted to continue the tradition and have a III. I wanted my bratchild to have his own name so I could yell through the house and get only one answer. Anyway, we hadn't picked out a name, I got the stomach flu, they induced labor, kid was born early, they offered me a shower, they asked what his name was after he was born, the Stud rattled off the III name, I demanded my shower, they asked if that name was good for me, I said yes! I want my shower! I got my shower.

Jr. III errata sounds really cool from a distance. Don't do it. Why? The purpose of a name is to differentiate between people, not make them the same.

My son is named Jordan Patrick. First name just because I liked it, and because my first choice was Jake and (soon to be daddy) didn't like the name Jake. Middle name Patrick.......his fathers middle name.

Noah Foster

Noah is the most popular name on my maternal grandfathers side of the family in tracing the geneology.

Foster was my fathers father who passed before I was born. I didn't tell my dad of my intention to name him Foster until after he had been delivered, the look on my dad's face I will remember forever.

If ever I have a girl her name will most likely be Della Carroll. Both are family names.

Our first, a boy named Zachary was agreed upon by my husband and I by the time we reached the "Z"s in the baby name book.

I really wanted Sophia or Isabella and Olivia for the twins, but my husband didn't like Sophia or Isabella - he would agree to Sophie or Isabel, but I didn't want the watered down versions. We agreed on Emily for our first born daughter, and Olivia for the second.

I like traditional names, spelled correctly. (sorry lovetoread) ;)

PCG, I wanted Madison too. I've always liked that name and the nick, Maddie.

My oldest son-Benjamin Douglas is a combination of the grandfathers middle names...

My oldest daughter-Megan Elaine.. Megan is a name I picked out. I liked it and it wasn't real common. Elaine is a family name, my great great grandmothers middle name, my great grandmothers middled name, my grandmothers middle name, my middle name and now my daughters. I have a necklace that is handed down on each girls 13th birthday with the letter E on it. Megan gets it in February.. :)

Youngest son-Zachary John.. Zachary because it wasn't common  Every boy in his school is named that.. It originally was the name we had picked for Megan.. but at birth Zachary didn't fit her well.. ;) and John.. is my ex husbands name, he wanted a JR.. but I wasn't going for that. We compromised with the middle name. (funniest thing about this is, his dad ended up marrying a lady with a son that is 3 years younger and also named Zachary. They live in the same house, so for the last 6 years it has been Zach (mine) and Zachy (hers).)

Youngest daughter-Kimber Lee-Ann...Kimber is the first name of a guy I lived with when I was pregnant.. Kimber's father wasn't around.. and Kimber (the guy) was. He helped when I was having problems and was there for all of my doc appointments. Even went to the ultrasound and cried when he found out it was a girl. (he couldn't have children and so badly wanted them). So I named her Kimber (pissing off her father, he wanted Kimberly) I compromised and put her middle name Lee-Ann it's a combination of Kimbers (the guy friend) wifes middle name and my mothers middle name.

Just don't ever let her hear you call her Maddie. She's unforgiving.

The purpose of a name is to differentiate between people, not make them the same.

Exactly why I'm glad I had girls. I know that no matter what name we'd agreed on, I would have ended up with a the IV

My oldest is Michael William Lawrence. Michael because my first kiss (at 10 ) came from a boy called Michael. Also I went to school with two other boys called Michael and they were really great guys. My favourite Uncle's middle name is Michael.
Lastly because my sister was going to be called Michael but she ended up being a Michelle. :)
William is his fathers middle name and Lawrence just because!
(His father wanted to call him Carol Denise if he was a girl)

Youngest son Thomas Leslie Alexander, combination of families names on both sides that go back generations. My great great great great Grandfather was called Thomas. Love the name and I had a massive crush on a boy at school called Thomas. :D

He was going to be called Lisa Maree LOL Yes after Elvis's daughter. I am an Elvis fan) Maree is my middle name.

my son is saddled with the "the fourth" (IV) thing. He got his the same way KillerMuffin's got his "III". Don't *ever* do that to a child! Yes, you end up with 3 people answering every time you call to the child; you also end up with idiots in vital statistics departments who insist upon putting the "IV" in the middle, like an initial (ESPECIALLY since my son has no middle name!).

Mathieson David...

While I was pregnant I kept hearing the name Mathieson, usually as a last name but I loved the way it sounded. (It was one of the names from some sci-fi show I was watching regularly at the time I think it was called Excalaber or something like that) His father wasn't sure about it at first because it's also his families Scottish clan name but came to like the sound of it as a first name. David is his father's middle name. His last name is one of those long sophisticated type names so the whole thing sounds good together. :)

Might I say that we have some very unusually named children here at Lit? :D

How did/will you come up with their names?
We went through a list of names trying to come up with a short list of ones we liked and agreed on. We also gave consideration to the following:

1) What would his/her peers shorten it to.

2) Nothing even remotely weird like Moon Unit.

3) Nothing that kids could use to make fun of him or her.

4) No family names, not even as a middle name - that is just bullshit - if people want someone to carry on their name then let them have the kids. I got stuck with a middle name that was a family name - try explaining to a cop as a teenager that you can't even spell your middle name because it is so weird.

5) And after reading some of the other posts, I remembered something else; no weird spellings that kids have to explain to teachers, peers, etc.

6) Nothing that could be unisex as my name is.

Betsy

8 more weeks to go, and I get to see her in the flesh.........

I wanted Elizabeth because I wanted to name my daughter(s) after strong women that have set precedents for their character.....Elizabeth I of England is my personal hero. Anne is my mother-in-law's middle name, and I love the woman to death. Ironically, I wanted Anne Elizabeth, but Elizabeth Anne is my hubby's great-great-grandmother's name, and would have been his name had he been born female. Thus, I caved and allowed the switch.
We are calling her Betsy, because it is more of an uncommon nickname for Elizabeth.
