I need an expert!

Anyone ever hear of a rule that would allow a forward pass, in leu of a kick, through the uprights for a field goal?

This is one of those Sunday night, during the game questions that come up after one too many cocktails. So please be gentle with your laughter and/or criticism.

Thanks!!

Only in backyard two-hand touch after the second keg has been tapped.

I'm not sure what you are asking...

Did they run a fake play that allowed them to throw instead of kick? Yes this is legal....

Lasher, thanks for the reply. It could just be in two-hand touch...I said there was rum involved! lol

I do tend to be a bit confusing at times, LMM, it's part of my charm. :) This was not a play viewed, but was the recollection of Mac, my viewing partner and spouse. As I said, this may or may not be a real play. I'm not speaking of a trick play and in this hypothetical play it is not necessary to have a receiver. It may be a college play, hell, it may just be a back yard play as was already suggested.

The answer is purely for my own information, just a bit of football tirvia.

Naughty...I knew you were a woman after my own heart. Tell me again, how far away from the beach is your bed...ummm...I mean home. ;)

BTW...Did you see that Johnny Benson won his first Cup race today? God, I love a first time winner!!!

ummm didn't the canadian version have a rule like that?

Canadian Football doesn't have rules. They just bumble about in the snow until it's time for hot chocolate.

Snow, Ducks and Hot Chocolate? Sounds kinky...

I'm In!

Do canadians play football? Do they use those funny sicks for that too?

Sick isn't funny.

Canadians play very manly football.

Forward passes through the upright are legal, but don't score any differently than any other forward pass in any "standard" game. The touchy-feely, rum-lubricated ones use different, somewhat (dare I say it?) fluid rules and interpretations.

Such a play wouldn't result in any scoring in either US Pro or College football. It would be an incomplete pass and might even result in a penalty if there is no reciever in the area of the goal posts.

Backyard touch football is up for grabs. People can pretty much make up whatever rules they want there.

8 short miles hun ;)

Well of course, we were at the Blue Angel's air show but listened to the end of the race on radio. I'm glad JB won, he's a good guy.
Mikey is still my favorite though, I get a kick out of him.

Heh. Canadian football. :D

Throwing a football through the uprights doesn't count unless you catch it. That won't happen in American football because the uprights are in the back of the end zone. It's possible in Canadian football, because there's a lot more end zone behind the goal posts.

There is a scoring play called a "drop kick", which can happen on any down whereby whoever receives the snap basically drops the ball and kicks it on one bounce through the uprights. As I recall it, this play scores 3 points, just like a regular field goal. I have never seen one done in a game, though they used to be far more popular "back in the day" - like the 30's and 40's.

Stick...I meant Stick...

damn rum...evil rum...

I'm starting to get the feeling you guys are making fun of me....I'm also beginning to wonder if I've been set up.

JazzMan, perhaps you're right and that is what he was thinking of, at least if I believe that, I don't have to feel like he was taking advantage of my blondeness.

Naughty...do you have a spare room? NASCAR, Football, Aircraft and salt water...You may be more than I can resist. ;)

ma_guy, I thought the whole point of backyard football was grabbing...or am I in trouble again?

Lucky, rum is a terrible lubricant...it stings...

Fancy meeting you here! <grin>

And talking about football no less. Sweetie, you look beautiful when you talk football. And the rum doesn't hurt either.

A pass can be made through the uprights but, it wouldn't result to anything but an out of bounds pass.

Keep talking. It suits you.

It has been known to be used as medicinal purposes such as antibiotics, sterilizer, ermmm... Someone help me here.

Naughty, how is my Gator? Guess where I was last night? <grin>

let's see, aphrodisiac?

and you didn't come see me? I'm wounded..... *sniff sniff*

Chanaud!! Should have known a football thread would lure you in...(makes note, more football threads) I don't think I've ever had another woman talk football to me...it's kind of sexy.

Naughty...I like Mikey too, but after trying to bump draft Jeff Green from the side in the Bush race yesterday (costing them both a top 5 finish) I don't think he was emotionally prepared to win today. Sticky isn't so bad...sweet is good...whats the nightly rate on that spare room?

Lucky, it only happened once...and I did say I'm blonde.

Naughty, are you in Jacksonville? If I would have known, I would have invited you to our tailgate party. <makes note> Visit Jacksonville soon. <grin>

Another woman talking about football always turn me on. Heck, a man talking about football turns me on too. <grin> I'm easy that way.

Nope! You're 100% correct. That's why throwing passes in backyard football should be discouraged. It spreads the players out to far.

Always go for a run up the middle. That way you all end up in a big pile on the ground and then you can get away with all the grabbing you want. :p
