Almost double of any other state....

https://www.policygenius.com/homeowners-insurance/states-with-the-most-hurricanes/

Now....isn't this one of those states with no income tax? Why should the rest of the country be responsible for repairing the damage they accrue? Shouldn't the people that choose to live there be responsible for this? At least...the majority of it? I really don't get this mentality....give money to people that will get wiped out again ...give money to rebuild in a floodplain....give money to rebuild in a fire zone....give money to rebuild after a hurricane. Is it any wonder that the States that get hit most by hurricanes all are Republican run states? Help us help us poor us....

Now, I have no issue helping a State rebuild if they match funds. That's what a nation should do. But as it is....aren't we just rewarding bad behavior?

It's going to have to be the insurance industry that puts a stop to the bizarre policy of encouraging people to move to a state that's going to be substantially under water (even when there aren't hurricanes) by the end of the century.

So....you don't care other States are covering the majority of the costs for these states that refuse to tax themselves? I know it is difficult for you....why not try to stay on topic?

I generally agree that property insurance rates should more accurately reflect the potential damage risks of hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and earthquakes. To some degree that seems to be occurring. But when people see houses underwater on their TV screens, the prevailing emotion among most is sympathy. Few people worry about who pays. Case in point: New Orleans brought much of the damage from Katrina upon itself through years of infrastructure neglect and failure to plan for evacuation during the days and hours before the storm.

And New Orleans has used those Federal funds to prevent...or least try to prevent...that from happening again. And as far as I know...Louisiana has a state income tax...that part of which covers disasters. Now....do they spend money where they should? No....look at the ExxonMobil spill. They sure do love that tax base but they didn't use one dollar to set up a system to cover in case of a disaster. Florida has no income tax and uses their money to hire private planes to send documented asylum seekers from Texas to Massachusetts. Seems to me....they have plenty of money.

I have no issue helping people. But I don't want to be the one covering the cost over and over and over. It is those people that choose to live in a state that gets hurricanes almost double to the next state....and one-third of all hurricane landfalls....to figure out how they should pay to rebuild. State's rights baby. Can't have it both ways

Florida pays federal taxes kumquat. They also have a 5% corporate tax, 6% sales tax and a local sales tax.

You can rest assure all our home owners insurances are going to take a hit on this one. Diesel fuel at 5 bucks a gallon and a broken supply chain to boot, thank you Joe for your insightful leadership.

So? Do they have a State income tax? You know....to fund these things you want the Feds to cover....over and over and over.

It is a choice where you choose to live. Poor you. Blaming Biden for an act of nature your State chose not to prepare for

Looks to me like Florida is leaps and bounds ahead of democratically run blue shitholes.

Oh OK, I saw a thread titled "Florida and Hurricanes" and then proceeded to post something about ... Florida and hurricanes. Figured it was on topic!

I'll keep doing what I've done for 20+ years and post what the fuck I want.

Maybe President DeSantis will try wiping out the hurricanes with nuclear bombs.

Piss off Dribbs.

Is that you spewing your silly over on the Techie board?

Your entire diatribe is nonsense. Florida did not single handedly pass the laws related to Federal Disaster Relief. Virtually every state is subject to natural disasters, floods, fires, tornado's, hurricane's. earth quakes, the list goes on. Why would the manner in which a state raises its monies and pay its bills have anything to do with the issue? In reality the method doesn't mean a damn thing.................period.

And while we're on the subject, how is it that FL has a $21.8 Billion surplus without having to resort to taxing its citizens incomes? Hmmmm? And thank God they do, they're going to have to dip into that surplus over the next few months.

Should be interesting to see that surplus disappear and not be replenished due to the squabble with Disney

The policy SHOULD be build back STRONGER!! (and perhaps NOT in a flood plain)
Porto Ricco needs to be allowed to build back stronger! Not ONLY to build back the same!!
THAT'S crazy!!
At least Florida isn't an island that can only ship from America. Imagine THAT supply chain problem!!!
