Could someone please tell me which flogger is best for a beginner?

Perhaps point me in the direction of getting one?

Tis the truth that I have very little knowledge about this and would like to know.

Thanks.

Hi,
I am no expert but I would suggest the smallest one possible. Try it out on the inside of your wrist in the store (no, it won't shock anybody) and you will find the one that is right for you.

Take a look at what's available

You can find floggers on just about any BDSM toy site of varying quality and/or price. Depending on how much money you want to spend and how often and seriously you would be using them. And I bet there are those here who would have some ideas on how to make your own for experimentation.

The floggers here are often expressed as some of the very best available: http://www.heartwoodwhips.com/ (That said, they are also not going to be the least expensive!)

Here in SF, 'Sarah Lashes' whips are considered of one of the highest quality purchases.

I bought mine here: http://www.flogger.com/menu.htm

I was very pleased with the service, info and quality vs. price of their products. I have four: 1 deer, 1 elk and 1 cowhide, and one goat, braided cat.

I looked at just about everything that was available and read all the info I could get my hands on related to floggers, and then weighed cost/quality and found what worked for me. Good luck!

There are some "do it yourself" flogger instructions on the net if you are into making your own and saving money. I just gave two for examples.

My advice if you aren't into making your own, or what I would have done 5 years ago if I knew what I know now, is to bite the bullet and buy a good leather flogger. You can spend from 85 to 300 dollars depending on what you get. I got a good one at auction once for 64.

string floggers are easy to make, and good for warm up.

The length determines the degree that the pain is sharpe or dull

Floggers....

I have been in and out of the scene for over 10yrs. I have never come across a flogger that inflicts pain. Cat-O-nine, but not flogger. The most sensuous ones I have found have been made out of elk hide, but come in almost any material that you can think of. I personally have a Nylon one that is full, but soft, and also works very well as a teaser when it is dragged along the body of a tied up sub. There are even floggers on Ebay, but you can usually try them out at a fetish flea...look for one in your area..

Hmmmm

I have several, and I love them. I have small ones to the full size buffalo flogger that bitchboy gave me.

The floggers I have that sting the most is the one that was made for me out of rope and beads and the rubber one which I got at JT Stockroom - they still sell it. It has a nice handle that can be inserted into the orifice of your choice.

I couldn't find the one I wanted, but this one looks painful. But yeah, a flogger shouldn't be painful. It's the cock of whipping.

Horsehair

Master got a new horsehair flogger about a month ago. It can be soft and sensual when he goes easy and has a wonderful bite when he really lays into me. Only problem with it is, it sheds, I'm always finding stray horse hairs in the strangest places.

PS. on bound breasts, its unbeatable

Yes!

I made a deerskin flogger for Himself this past summer and it has become His favorite warm up flogger... it is soft enough that it does no skin damage and creates a nice sensation on bound breasts.

Yes, I do. The stingy feel of the horse hair is particularly good on very sensitive nipples. Master will also use the end of his crop or his small leather paddle when they're bound. He never uses full force so it does no damage.

Unless you swing them with quite a bit of force most leather floggers do not cause pain. That being said it is easy to get/make one that will. Tablecloth plastic that is sold in rolls makes an interesting flogger as does multiple strings of knotted latigo.
The cut at the bottom of the falls (straight vs angled) changes the sensation also.

Try making a simple flogger:

1. Take a sheet of leather and cut it in parallel strips to within 3 or 4 inches of the edge (kinda like giant fringe)

2. Wrap the uncut end around a thin dowel gluing every so often
the size of the dowel/leather combination will depend on your hand size. Before gluing try different size dowels to find one that is right for you.

3. Finish with small upholstery tacks and a small knob on top (pre-drill the dowel) if you'd like.

You can use two sheets of different color/weight leather/fabric for an interesting look/feel.

You may find that you like the feel of your homemade flogger better than what you can buy. Although I've never been able to make one that looks as nice as a Heartwood I want to try.

Does anyone know of a good book that teaches how to do the herringbone and knot pattern seen on the handle of so many floggers? Also, does anyone know how to make leather roses?
