It’s a space octopus, hun.

So it doesn't need water to live in then? I'd classify it as some kind of alien being which has certain resemblances - by coincidence - with earthbound octopuses. Somebody here mentioned the creatures in Alien and Aliens which resemble - something. Reptiles?

I tried, but I still didn't get it. It's a subset of science fiction I guess. The average octopus or squid doesn't care at all for humans. The ones the Japanese invented seem oversized, but I'm not a marine biologist so I may have missed something.
It's the non consensual aspect. Generally tentacle porn involves the subject being restrained and sexually stimulated either against their will, or without knowing what is happening.

It has nothing to do with whether real life octopuses or squid would find humans sexually appealing.

I sort of got that. Interesting that on this site one can be raped by a creature but not by another person, it seems. Although one could imagine some kind of love story between a human and one of these critters. On second thought, I can't.

You didn’t read all of it, did you?

There is a vaguely coherent explanation. In a chapter called “Explanations”.

All right, I only skimmed through the explanations and endnotes. Maybe it doesn't need to be explained; it just is what it is. Like at the end of Psycho, maybe you really don't need that guy explaining what happened with Norman Bates. It's already plain what's wrong with him. And yet Hitchcock didn't explain why the birds did they did in The Birds.

My tentacle porn is consensual. I agonized over how to make it so. It was kinda the backbone (pun intended) of the story.

I would say that if the 'first time' experience factors heavily into the story, then it could go in that chapter, even if the characters are already sexually experience. If it's her first time having anal sex, or his first time having a threesome, or a married couple's first time having sex in front of a crowd, you could put it in that category and make the story description clear that it's not someone losing their virginity.

However, if the story is focused on another aspect of the experience and it being the first time isn't a big deal story wise you might get some complaints. For instance two swingers who have sex with others all the time decide to have sex with a blonde woman for the first time. That might be a bad fit, unless you can work into the story a long time fixation on blonde women by the husband.

Characters doing something for the first time are different than characters that are EXPERIENCING something for the first time.

Does that make any sense? It makes perfect sense to me, but I'm afraid others will read this reply and suspect that I'm just doing the reply equivalent of babbling incoherently.

It’s not in the end notes. The MMC explains to the the FMC what he is and how he does stuff. It’s exposition, not end notes.

You may not like the explanation or find it incredible, but it is at least self-consistent.

It makes sense. I just have to pick something and stand by it.

Can't help you there. Having two ideas that don't go together and deciding which one to use is not something I'm good at.

Throw in a third idea and I'm staring out the window feeling like a total failure for hours.

It's science fiction, is it not? Sci-Fi always has a "fudge factor," as someone called it. Like how do you do interstellar travel even if you approach the speed of light? (Orphans of the Sky had an interesting take on that.) Internal consistency is good enough.

It’s my attempt at hard sci-fi. Yes even with a space octopus!

Why not just read the thing? You can’t really comment on fudge factors having just skimmed. There is just one piece of “magic” and all the rest is built on that. And the magic is not entirely infeasible. A stretch, sure, but not infeasible.

I don't know, don't worry about how feasible it is. If you like it, that's what counts.
