I'm just curious as to how many people on here actually give out their first names to other users... I suppose I can understand why anonymity might be a necessity, but for those of you who have nothing to lose, what are your names? Mine is Gina. :)

Giving it in email or PM to someone I'm speaking to is different than posting it on the bb for the whole world to see.

I have stuff to lose, but not by giving out my name....but isn't it more fun not to know? it's all about mystery baby!

Some people are OK with it, others aren't. We all have to make that call for ourselves.
My first name is, ta-da, Caroline. My last name is not Oh!
Hi Gina :)

I've never had a problem with others knowing my name, it would be somewhat difficult to find me based solely on that information.

Not really........information has an accumulative effect. A bit here, bit there..........how's GA weather.

I tend to include my name in PMs; I include it in email almost by default. Those are personal in a way that a post to the forum cannot possibly be, and merit a different protocol. To date, nobody I have "given" my name to has turned around and used it to address me here in the forum (or on other places I post.) Of course a variety of terms some of which appear to be my name do get used as forms of address, but that's mostly for amusement and I don't mind that it muddies the water for internet stalkers.

I

I would only give it to a select few literoticans! I am a private person to begin with.

In a PM I'm still Allexus. In an email...it shows up by MSN default. (I wish I knew how to change that!! Anyone know??) In messenger chats, it depends on which one I'm using.

I tend to give it in PMs and email but not on the GB - and not for any reason that I can identify!

<<<<<<<<It really is April............but my second name is not Wine......;)

I think most people I know here know my name is Sandy.

Mine is Obvious....

however, being priveleged to know a few Lit.erati by their first names, I absolutely respect their right to preserve privacy on this GB. :D

Most here know my name, and I always sign it in my PM's.

I think I shock some people my name isn't really Summer.

*Edited* as I have changed my mind about having my name posted on the board.

I don't understand what Busty said about anonymity being a necessity.

If people don't want to give their names out on the net (first names not whole names ) that's fine, but tell me what harm could come to you if you did post your first name on the general board? I get the feeling people think they're going to lose everything in the world by revealing their first name.

How's this any different from meeting somone on the street, in an office or anywhere in the world and extending your hand and saying "Hi, I'm ****." ?

I was just being general in nature there. A "your name here" seemed a bit out of place.

Hmmmmm yes I understood that lol........But I prefer to think 4 stars lol..........hugs Tyrael:D

I don't purposely exclude my name to be sneaky, I just don't feel comfy spilling it to the world at large.

Most people who have had a PM or email from me know it.

I don't consider myself overly private and in fact I think I'm pretty open.

I dunno. I think it all goes back to personal comfort level and how safe you feel. If holding you name close makes you feel better about internet safety, so be it. I'm all for doing what feels right to each individual. :)
