Errr.... I'm out of my domain posting here but was just talking to a colleague from work who admitted she's been to a fetish club here in London a few times and asked me if I wanted to go with her and her bf next time (and bring my bf too)

I've asked him, he said he'd do it for a laugh.

She doesn't want to go to the same one she went to last time because she used to go there with her ex boyfriend and it was kind of 'their' place, so she wants to find another one.

Also, at the one she used to go to she said that everyone was on pills and off their faces... and I'm not particularly into the drug scene.

I don't really actually know what the hell goes on at these places... she said everyone dresses up and has sex.

I don't want to go for that, I'm not into BDSM at all because I can't understand the point of it but I would like to go once just to say that I've been.

How do I find out about where these events are held, and are there any where everyone isn't high?

Also -- am I going to stand out like a sore thumb if I don't shag like everyone else, cos there's no way I want to, I just want to see what all the fuss is about.

And why does every one dress up? Do I have to wear like... latex or some shit? A mask? I'm so fucking clueless.

Answers please.

I would recommend dressing up in some way. Everyone dresses up because it's fun, it's sexual, and you can lose your inhibitions and be crazy for the night. If you go in "street clothes" you will, indeed, stand out like a sore thumb. It will get you more weird looks than fetish clothing will, and you sound like you want to just blend in and observe. No problem with that, and hopefully you'll have a good time. Maybe you'll even get what all the fuss is about! :)

Latex wear is VERY expensive. If you don't plan on attending more (although you might change your mind, if you have a good experience) I would try to wear something you already have and spice it up with some accessories. You're a girl, so you can get away with less-fetishy clothing than a man. A really sexy bra and panties would work, and I'd add a garter and stockings if possible. Sexy high heels are a must. ;)

Try doing a google or yahoo search for "Fetish club" plus the name of your town/city/area. If nothing pops up, increase the geographic area you're searching in. Also, check the phone book for fetish shops and porn shops in your area. They probably have flyers for local events!

As for drugs, I'm not sure what advice to give you. There's bound to be some people on drugs at almost any club, fetish or non. Maybe the employees at the fetish or porn store can give you some tips on the clubs/events that have less of a drug-crowd.

As for the sex, I've yet to go to an event where I saw people having sex, but I've heard of them. I'm VERY sure that not everyone has sex. I wouldn't worry about sticking out for not doing it, you can just be a voyeur. Though if you do decide to "join the party" then tell us all about it afterwards! ;) In fact, posting the results of your first club experience right here on this thread would be a good read, if you find the time. In any case, I hope you have fun, ES.

I have a couple good links to those clubs and British sex resources, I'll dig them out. Watch this space. :)

In London, the clubs are much more about dressing than sex, or so I've been told. I suppose a few do crowd-participation sex, but mostly what you're going to see are shows, people there to demo some sort of interesting bdsm or fetish act or another and other people (the majority) watching, or else in another room dancing and drinking. Fetishistic wear (rubber, latex, leather, rubber, rubber, rubber) is really popular at clubs in London for some reason. Maybe because the city is a fashion center?

Keep in mind that Fetish Clubs are not a fair, or at least not a clear representation of the BDSM world. If you're curious about BDSM, I'd pursue personal experiences before I tried to join the party.

I know there is a guy who is trying to start one in this city, I tried helping him a bit with a letter of interest as a means to persuadean investor (a guy with actual money) that this venture will be profitable. Other than that, I have no real experiences with them.

I attend fetish parties here in South Florida all the time... Fetish Factory

There are party pictures so you can see what peeps are wearing and what actually goes on there... I usually wear a corsett of some sort and skirt or pants...

They are a lot of fun... it is not a sex party. more like a spanking party... I encourage everyone to go at least one time for it is an expierience. who know you may liek it you may not... but at least you went and tried it... You don't have to participate you can jsut watch and if you want to join in you can...but never any pressure...

I just posted some pics from Fetish Factory's 10yr anniversary party in my thread... page 130-131... you can be so creative gettign dressed... that is part of the fun... you have to allow your alter Ego to come out...

I find people in the lifestyle are not judgemental... So if you are worried about that please let this statement put your mind at ease...

let us know if you go...

Hey, I go to the Alter Ego and XFP parties all the time, I wonder if we've run into each other. I'll have to check out your pic thread.

Heh, I remember when Eating_Scarlett called us all freaks and abnormal. Good times, man, good times.

A lot of folk on the dance club scene in London tended to migrate across to the edge of the fetish scene as well; if you're going to spend six hours in a hot club losing it to some very heavy dance music less clothes is better. Start looking for something glamorous and minimal that's not a wonderbra and a thong and you end up, almost inevitably, in PVC / latex. Take loads of disinhibitting drugs because they're preferable to alcohol if you're doing lots of exercise (their reasoning, not mine) and you're likely to end up in some, ummm, unusual situations. (It's my former dorrman personality that adds the caveat 'misinterpret bits of the above and you end up on a rape charge; not only does No mean no, but 'bleearggghhhhh man I'm off my tits' does not mean yes....)

Final clue; if it advertises as a fetish club in London, and has a PEL or a drinks license, it ain;t likely to permit full on sex as a norm. It may happen, but that's not the same thing...

That's usually true in the United States, too. In fact very few fetish clubs here allow intercourse on their premises, liquor license or not. I think sex is more common at swinger's clubs, which I consider to be a different thing.
