My two pennith..
I think that if you really simplify the D/s relationship to:
the pyl's job is to pleasure his/her PYL
the PYL's job is to look after his/her pyl
You can see the problem;
It is the pyl's 'goal' to be everything that the PYL finds pleasurable, If the PYL prefers a overweight to the point of not being healthy then this is her goal. (?)
However if the PYL has taken responsibility for the well being of the pyl, therein lies the problem; as no caring PYL should let their pyl become unhealthy, OK maybe temporarily making them roll naked in fresh snow or keeping them up all night but not shortening their lifespan.
As a sub, if my Master told me to take up smoking I'd be more likely to stick the packet where the sun don't shine! But lots of people take up smoking usually when they are younger and usually because of peer pressure, if that person dies of lung cancer it could be loosely blamed upon those peers. You could say they had their whole life to give up, but most people would agree smoking is a very hard habit to break.
Correspondingly if a person has a habit of eating the wrong foods it can be an equally hard habit to break, especially if they still have that peer (or even more a dominant) aiding their habit. Throw in a bit of self loathing or low self esteem of some type (be it from the PYL or elsewhere) and I can see how easily these things can happen. Consensual- probably, Safe and Sane- I dunno?
Recently I have been rendered temporarily house bound and totally reliant upon my family and friends. At the beginning, each day when he returned from work he brought fresh cream cakes, why? Because he is caring, knew I was down and knew that there is nothing nicer than a cup of tea and a cream cake (I'm English remember!
) After a week I had to ask him to stop buying them, I knew I wasn't mobile enough to work them off and I knew that I didn't have the will to say "no thanks". He stopped buying them so I only put on a lb; had he continued, I would have kept eating. It doesn't take much.
I fear am waffling and my grammar is failing but I guess the point I am trying to make is that any PYL that does not have the best interests of their pyl at heart is at best a bad PYL and at worst abusive - the end result may be the same but it is all to do with the PYL's mindset. If we kill someone by accident it is manslaughter if we do it with premeditation it is murder.
