Federer v. Murray -Tennis

I love Roger, and he does have a lot of good tennis still in him, but Andy is on roll. It would be nice to see Andy take it, but even better if it was a grand slam.

It's like trying to forecast interest rates or the stock market or petroleum prices: an exercise in futility.

Yesterday's match between Djokovic and Federer was a case in point; after the first set ( Federer 6-1 ), the commentators were convinced the whole match'd be done in less than an hour. Djokovic didn't look like he could do anything right and his body language was awful. He couldn't hit a backhand to save his life. In contrast, Federer couldn't do anything wrong. Down 2 games and 0-30 in the second set, for reasons known only to the universe, Djokovic began to play the way he is capable of playing and Federer "regressed to the mean" ( it almost goes without saying that Federer's mean is Olympian ).

If Murray plays the way he played against Nadal, there's nobody on earth who can beat him. Yesterday, he was "firing on all cylinders." The ferocity of his groundstrokes left me shaking my head and exclaiming, "A human being can't do that!"

Murray has, of course, had several hours more rest and he leads Federer in their lifetime head-to-head meetings, 6-5— I believe. There aren't many for whom that's the case.

In the end, it depends on who's "on" on any particular day. Otherwise, it's a toss-up. If you hold a gun to my head and say, "Choose," I'll take Murray by a hair.

I think every tennis afficinado would dearly love to see Murray pull off a Wimbledon victory before he's done.
