Here's another...

REVOLTING COCKS - "Do You Think I'm Sexy" (Rod Stewart)

outside it's cold, it's misty and it's raining... they've got each other and neither one is complaining - he says I'm sorry but I'm out of KY jelly - "nevermind sugar, we can catch the early movie."

Oh and who can forget a classic cover like The Doors "Alabama Song" originally done by I have no idea band.

Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, originally performed by Lotte Lenya (Weill's wife) in "Aufstief und Fall der Stadt Mahogany."

Sorry. I'm a Brecht/Weill geek.

I don't know if you'll count it as a cover
but when kd lang and Roy re did crying
that was awesome.
dynamite hack boyz in the hood
a lot of versions of knockin on heavens door have been great

i hate most covers but these are good

Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower"
UKJ's "Cat's in the Cradle"
Concrete Blonde's "Everybody Knows"
Limp Bizkit's "Behind Blue Eyes"

Edited to add:

Quoted from the liner notes of Jimi Hendrix The Ultimate Experience:

" 'I felt like Watchtower was something I had written but could never get together. I often feel like that about Dylan,' said Jimi. Meanwhile, in the liner notes for his Biograph set, Bob Dylan himself has this to say: 'It's not a wonder to me that he recorded my songs but rather that he recorded so few because they were all his.' "

Btw, Hendrix did the bass playing (left handed) on that track as Noel Redding (right handed bass player) 'got pissed off and was in the pub - but the track didn't suffer' - Mitch Mitchell

Agreed...

One cover tune I really like is the new one of "Tweeter And The Monkeyman" by a band that I can't recall right at the moment.. The Traveling Willberrys I think originally did that one, and it's so much better as a hard rocking song.

Thats the Headstones...the cover is 5 plus years old and damn it the band disbanded

Yes, yes, yes!

Concrete Blonde's "Everybody Knows" is another great cover!

what is that Rolling Stone cover by a chick band (I think, at least a female vocalist) that goes like this...

"Wild horses... couldn't drag me away........"

someone... anyone know this???

Yep, it's called "Wild Horses" and it was covered by The Sundays and it's on the Buffy soundtrack. Another Buffy connection that I love was a cover of "Rio" (Duran Duran) done by Four Star Mary but I've only heard that live.

I totally agree with Lady Cristobel on:
Lenny Kravitz ~ "American Woman" (The Guess Who)
Midler, Hawn, Keaton ~ "You Don't Own Me" (Lesley Gore)
Guns N Roses ~ "Live and Let Die" (Paul McCartney)
Tesla ~ "Signs" (Five Man Electrical Band)

And I also agree with the many people who listed
Jimi Hendrix ~ "All along the Watchtower"

And I'll add:
Uncle Kracker ~ "Drift Away"
10,000 Maniacs ~ "Because the Night" (Springsteen)
Springsteen ~ "War"

Joe Satriani did a version of the old "Sleep Walk" by Santo and Johnny I like. I also like Nirvana's cover of the Meat puppets tune "Lake of Fire". I like a few others, but as my mood changes so does the music.

I do have a good cover of "Flying in a Blue Dream", it's on a demo CD my band uses to get gigs.

firth of fifth

Steve Hackett - John Wetton - Ian Mcdonald \\ Firth Of Fifth

first song played at our engagement party, not this version ( the genesis live version) , ive only just found this one. most of it, like most of genesis stuff, is dross. BUT John Wettons bass playing during Hacketts solo.... fuck me!!!

more of a cover gig, but hey ho

Gary Moore & Friends - One Night In Dublin: A Tribute To Phil Lynott [Thin Lizzy] (complete)

Easy on Me - No Resolve
Shivers - No Resolve
Danger Zone - No Resolve
In the Air Tonight - State of Mine
One Right Now - Fame on Fire
Blinding Lights - Fame on Fire
24K Magic - Fame on Fire

INXS/Jimmy Barnes cover of Good Times by the Easybeats on the soundtrack to The Lost Boys.

Also, most of the covers in the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band were decent. Mostly not as good as the original Beatles' songs (exception: Come Together by Aerosmith). Lousy movie, decent soundtrack.

The same can be said about the Roadhouse soundtrack (best bad movie evah! :) ), but that was mostly due to the Jeff Healey Band being really good.

Lastly, Bob Seger did a kick ass live cover of CCR's Fortunate Son. He released it as a B-side in the 80s. It was better than the A-side song.

Yes, I'm showing my age with most of these references. :)

Best covers in my opinion
-Amy Winehouse covering Valerie
-Sweet Dreams covered by Marilyn Manson

I agree with a lot that’s already been posted but I hadn’t seen anyone mention these
